Today’s Super Mario Maker #47: New Event Course and Hello Kitty/My Melody costumes

Super Mario Maker came out last year in Japan, Europe and North America, but Nintendo is still going with its Today’s Super Mario Maker series. Right now, it’s the new Event Courses (and special costumes that come with them) which are highlighted!

When Nintendo picks up collaborations for Super Mario Maker, the company generally goes with IPs that have a worldwide appeal, though there’s been quite a lot of really Japan-centric collaborations in the past (such as the one with Babymetal or Daigasso! Band Brothers P). The latest collaboration, announced today, is definitely going to resonate well with players worldwide, not just in Japan or in Europe/North America.

On Friday, Nintendo will release a new Event Course for Super Mario Maker. If you manage to beat it twice (once per costume), you will get costumes based on two popular mascot characters from Sanrio: Hello Kitty and My Melody. While the latter may not be as popular in Europe and North America, the former definitely is pretty well-known worldwide.

Both costumes come with their own animation, poses, and sound effects. They even come with a special end of level jingle (which is a variation of the original one). They will be released on Friday (Thursday evening in North America).

Here’s a video showcasing both costumes:
