Splatoon 3 – What are Splatfests?
Splatfests are special in-game events taking place on a regular basis, which task players with settling some highly important debates (for example: “What is the best condiment? Ketchup or Mayo?”).
But the winner of a Splatfest isn’t (solely) decided based on the numbers of votes. Instead, players are split into three teams (based on their answer to the Splatfest’s question), and those teams then get to duke it out in Turf Wars. The team with the best results then wins the Splatfest, and the answer they voted for is selected as the only valid answer to the question initially asked (as per Splatfest Law).
Here’s how results are calculated:
- Total votes: +10 pts
- Conch shells per player during Sneak Peek: +8 pts
- Individual Clout from Splatfest Battle (Open): +12pts
- Individual Clout from Tricolor Turf War: +15 pts
- Individual Clout from Splatfest Battle (Pro): +12 pts
NB: only the team that ranks #1 in a given category gets the points for it.
Splatoon 3 – About regions
Just like in Splatoon and Splatoon 2, there are two types of Splatfests: those with the same theme in all regions (those are generally run simultaneously), and those with a different theme in each region (though some are frequently put together, like Europe and the Americas for example).
Splatoon 3 allows you to choose your region for Splatfests, which determines not just the theme of the Splatfest you get to take part in, but also which players you will be matched with (for example, if you select the Europe region, you will get the European themes and be matched with European players).
However, you need to keep in mind that once you have selected your region and take part in a Splatfest, you will not be able to change your region again for a little while.
Splatoon 3 – Splatfests: The various phases
- Phase 1: Announcement. The Squid Research Lab announces the Splatfest and its theme;
- Phase 2: Splatfest Sneak Peek. The time between the announcement and the start of the Splatfest. During that time, players can do the following:
- Cast their vote. Doing so allows you to get your Splatfest t-shirt (always has the Ability Doubler as their primary ability);
- Upgrade the t-shirt ahead of the event;
- Raise your catalog level by battling;
- Work shifts in Salmon Run to receive conch shells. Those do have an influence on the results of the Splatfest, allowing you to influence the results even if you cannot participate! Also, you can spend conch shells in the lobby for the chance to win items for Splashtags and lockers from the Shell-Out Machine.
- NB: You can cast your vote at anytime from the moment voting is open up to shortly before the end of the Splatfest!
- Phase 4: the Splatfest takes place on the designated day(s)
- First Half (first 24 hours): takes place in Splatfest Battle (Open) and Splatfest Battle (Pro) matches. Gain Clout based on wins, losses, and points from inking turf from both modes. Clout will also impact the final outcome!
- Second Half (last 24 hours): features Tricolor Turf War, which pitches the winning team against the two straggling behind. When it kicks off, the team with the most clout during the first half is announced in the Halftime Report.
- Phase 5: the results are announced a couple of hours after the Splatfest has ended, and players from all three teams get their rewards (naturally, winning team gets the best rewards). You get Super Sea Snails depending on how high your Splatfest Rank is. Your Splatfest Rank goes up depending on your play during the Splatfest Main Event.
