Super Smash Bros. for Wii U / 3DS: Takamaru could have been playable

Super Smash Bros. for Wii U / Nintendo 3DS have a rather impressive number of playable characters, though of course, they could have had even more. Indeed, several were actually dropped during development, for various reasons. Takamaru is one of those, as revealed by Masahiro Sakurai himself this week-end during a livestream.

He explains that work never really started for this character, which means no 3D model or anything. He was once considered for the Super Smash Bros. for Wii U / Nintendo 3DS roster, but he was ultimately rejected due to the fact he’s a rather unknown characters. He did get an assist trophy in the end, though!

During the livestream, Masahiro Sakurai also talked about the rather ludicrous character requests on the internet (and especially Miiverse), like Son Goku or SpongeBob. Of course, that doesn’t mean those will ever end up in a future Smash Bros. game at all, but it does show that Masahiro Sakurai pays quite a lot of attention to what’s being said on the internet.

Here’s a recording of the livestream:
