[Japan] The Super Mario Bros. Movie: sales data for the home video release [Update: Week 32]

In the weeks and months following the release of the Super Mario Bros. Movie in Japan, TOHO (the Japanese distributor) shared regular updates about its box office performance.

Starting today (September 6th), the Super Mario Bros. Movie is available on Blu-Ray (and DVD), and thanks to Oricon, we have some sales data (daily and weekly) for that home video release.

This post will be updated on a regular basis with all relevant data, so keep checking back!

Total sales

As of April 14th, the various versions of the Super Mario Bros. Movie have sold:

  • Blu-Ray + DVD combo: 76,012 units sold
  • SteelBook Blu-Ray + DVD combo: 4,757 units sold
  • 4k Ultra HD + Blu-Ray combo: 2,784 units sold
  • SteelBook 4k Ultra HD + Blu-Ray combo (Limited Edition): 1,039 units sold
  • SteelBook 4k Ultra HD + Blu-Ray combo: 790 units sold
  • Total: 85,382 units sold

April 16th

According to Oricon, the Blu-Ray + DVD combo of the Super Mario Bros. Movie ranked ??? in the Blu-Ray rankings during its 32nd week (April 8th to April 14th), with 124 units sold. During the same week, the combo ranked #13 in the Anime Blu-ray Ranking.

April 9th

According to Oricon, the Blu-Ray + DVD combo of the Super Mario Bros. Movie ranked ??? in the Blu-Ray rankings during its 30th week (March 25th to March 31st), with 472 units sold. During the same week, the combo ranked ??? in the Anime Blu-ray Ranking.

And during the 31st week (April 1st to April 7th), that same combo ranked ??? in the Blu-Ray rankings with 184 units sold. During that same week, it ranked #20 in the Anime Blu-Ray Rankings.

This brings total sales to 75,888 units for the Blu-Ray + DVD combo, and 85,258 units for all versions combined.

According to Oricon, the Blu-Ray + DVD combo of the Super Mario Bros. Movie ranked ??? in the Blu-Ray rankings during its 29th week (March 18th to March 24th), with 520 units sold. This brings total sales to 75,232 units for the Blu-Ray + DVD combo, and 84,602 units for all versions combined.

According to Oricon, the Blu-Ray + DVD combo of the Super Mario Bros. Movie did not rank in the Blu-Ray rankings during its 26th and 27th weeks (February 26th to March 10th), but still sold 478 and 587 units respectively. This brings total sales to 74,158 units for the Blu-Ray + DVD combo, and 83,528 units for all versions combined.

During the same weeks, the combo did not rank in the Anime Blu-Ray during its 26th week, but did rank #7 during its 27th week.
