Splatoon: Tower Control to be added later this week, Nintendo Treehouse Live preview later today

Last week, Nintendo announced that a major Software update for Splatoon would be released on Wednesday (Tuesday evening for North America). It will include a couple of fixes for the Splatfests, as well as various changes regarding game balance. And the following day, a brand new game mode, showcased during the Splatoon Direct in May, will be added to the game.

This new Ranked Battle mode is called Tower Control, and is pretty straightforward. At the center of the map, there’s a tower: the goal is for each team to get on it and bring it to the other’s team base in order to win. You can make the tower move simply by standing on it, but that’s pretty much the only simple part of the game mode!

Indeed, while you merrily ride the tower toward the enemy base (along a set path), the other team will do everything in order to stop you. Therefore, your teammates will need to protect you at all costs, so that you can ride safely to victory.

There’s two ways to win:

– reach the enemy base for an unconditional win;
OR
– go further with the tower than the enemy team.

Here’s a gameplay video for this mode (in Japanese), along with two pictures:

This new game mode will be available on July 2nd at the usual Splatoon update time:

– Europe: 4AM
– UK: 3AM
– North America (EDT): 10PM (July 1st)
– North America (PDT): 7PM (July 1st)
– Japan: 11AM

But that’s not all: if you want a preview of this new game mode, make sure to check out the latest Nintendo Treehouse Live this evening. It will be streamed live on Twitch at:

– Europe: 12PM (July 1st)
– UK: 11PM (today)
– North America (EDT): 6PM
– North America (PDT): 3PM
– Japan: 7AM
