[N-Direct] 3DS: side-scrolling Pikmin adventure game revealed, screens/footage

In pretty much all Nintendo Direct presentations, there’s at least one or two surprise announcements. And during yesterday’s Nintendo 3DS Direct, Pikmin fans got a pretty pleasant surprise when Nintendo revealed a side-scrolling adventure game for Pikmin, to be relaesed on the Nintendo 3DS.

In this game (which does not have a title yet), players control the one and only Captain Olimar, accompanied by the trusty Pikmin. Gameplay takes place on both screens, and you tap on the touchscreen to send the Pikmin whereever you want.

Just like in a regular Pikmin game, the little creatures can pick up and move objects around, but also battle enemies, carry treasures all the way to the goal, and more.

Three Pikmin species have been confirmed so far, and they have the same properties/abilities as in the mainline entries:

  • Red: fire resistant
  • Blue: can go in water
  • Yellow: stronger than the other species, and cannot be hurt by electricity

This side-scrolling Pikmin adventure game was designed to make players think fast, and make sure they use all the Pikmin they have.

Here’s some screenshots and artworks for the game:

Finally, here’s the segment from yesterday’s Nintendo 3DS Direct:

This new Pikmin game will be released in 2017 worldwide, on Nintendo 3DS.
