Shiren the Wanderer: The Mystery Dungeon of Serpentcoil Island – Ver. 1.2.0

  • Release date: July 5th 2024 (North America, Europe, Japan) at 4AM PT / 7AM ET / 12PM BST / 1PM CEST / 8PM JST

No patch notes available yet. This update brings the following to the game:

  • adds more new content
    • adds new playable character: Ryukai Shiren, a combination of Ryukai and Shiren.
      • This character cannot equip armour, but instead, can perform special attacks and use special skills.
      • Ryukai Shiren is only available in Sacred Tree Mode after clearing the Cavern of Suiryu.
    • adds Basic Training to the Monster Dojo, allowing to learn basic techniques (useful for newcomers and/or those struggling to reach the deepest part of a dungeon)
    • adds “Pinch Alert”: warn you if you take too much damage and find yourself in a pinch while exploring a dungeon. If you get one such alert, you can take a few moments to calm down and think about your next moves. The alert goes off if the next enemy attack will deal enough damage to make you fall.
    • adds new Dungeon variants with more floors (up to 99) to Sacred Tree Mode. For each Dungeon, you can choose to tackle either the original version, or the extended one. You need to have cleared the dungeon first before you can tackle the extended version.

New features
  • Added Sacred Tree Mode.
    • You can start this mode by examining the Sacred Tree located at Shukuba Beach, after clearing Serpentcoil Island.
    • You now replay dungeons you’ve already cleared using special rules.
  • Added Dojo Challenge Mode to the Monster Dojo.
    • This mode is only available after clearing Serpentcoil Island and unlocking the Monster Dojo.
Improvements
  • The Item Holder can now store up to 960 items.
  • Extended server storage duration for Parallel Data from 7 to 30 days.
  • Added ability to PAUSE while in dungeons by pressing down on the right stick.
  • Added an option to the Settings that allows you to turn off the display of possessions by quickly pressing the B button.
  • Adjusted the timing for when a rescue request is submitted.
  • Adjusted bonus for Aid Points obtained by rescuing other wanderers.
  • Increased the number of locations where travelling companions appear, and fine-tuned game balance in all dungeons.
  • Improved waiting time when setting up explosives.
Bug fixes / Adjustments
  • Fixed an issue occuring when identifying statuses such as curses under certain conditions.
  • Fixed an issue where blinded Bored Kappa would freeze if they threw items at each others.
  • Fixed an issue causing the results screen not to display properly in some rare cases.
  • About 120 other minor fixes and adjustments were made.

New Sacred Tree Mode with extra challenges

This new feature allows you to choose from 6 different modes from the Sacred Tree located at Shukuba Beach, where you aim to clear dungeons with special rules. Enjoy exploring dungeons with extra difficulty.

 

  • Normal Attack: uses the same rules as the main game, but allows you to play with a different character.
  • Time Attack: try to clear the dungeon as quickly as possible.
  • Turn Attack: try to clear the dungeon in as few turns as you can.
  • Quick attack: you have a limited time to take action during a turn. There’s also a time limit on the dungeon itself.
  • Limit Attack: you can set limits on the number of times you can use your tools/weapons.

NB: a 6th, secre mode is also available. You need to have cleared the game before you can try one of these new modes, which are only available in dungeons you’ve already cleared.

Kokatsu Shiren can now be used in all dungeons
  • Kokatsu Shiren can now be selected as playable character in Sacred Tree Mode. Previously only available in the Cavern of Suiryu, he can now be used in the other dungeons.
    • You need to clear the Cavern of Suiryu before you can use Kokatsu Shiren as playable character.
Dojo Challenge Mode is now available
  • A Dojo Challenge Mode is now available in the Monster Dojo. You can tackle mini-stages that teach you about the characteristics of each monster.
    • This mode is only available after clearing the main story and unlocking the Monster Dojo.
Item Holder is expanded
  • Increases the number of items you can deposit from 180 to 960.
Other
  • Other additions and improvements.
  • Game balance adjustments.
  • Known issue:
  • an error message appears when you reach the target floor during a Rescue. A fix is on the way.

  • Patch notes:
  • Fixed an issue where an error message such as “data is corrupt” was displayed when attempting to load suspended data, making the data unloadable.
    If you have been experiencing the above issue, please update the game and try loading the suspended data.
  • Fixed an issue causing Asuka’s event to not progress on rare occasions after updating the game previously.
    Please update the game and check the location(s) marked with “!”.
  • Fixed an issue causing the game to stop when a boss battle begins on rare occasions.
    If you are still experiencing this issue, please close the app and restart the game.
  • Other miscellaneous fixes.

  • Fixed an issue where a silver-sealed rune’s effect could become activated when resuming a suspended game.
  • Fixed Rescue-related issues (rescuee is different from that of the accepted request, rescuee is missing on the target floor, etc.).
  • Fixed an issue where items dropped due to Item-losing Bracelet’s effect were not displayed properly on the floor.
  • Turned off monster pups’ cries while the Item Holder’s window is opened.
  • Other miscellaneous fixes.

[Planned fixes in future updates]

  • Version 1.0.3 had an issue causing Askua’s event to not progress in rare occasions. When this occurred, it altered the save data, rendering some of the dungeons inaccessible. We are currently working to fix the affected save data in a future update. We sincerely appreciate your patience and understanding.
    (The above issue will not occur if you have progressed Asuka’s event to the point where she offers to accompany Shiren in the dungeon, or have started the game from the beginning in the latest version. If you are starting the game for the first time, please make sure that the game has been updated to version 1.0.4.)
  • When starting the game from a new Wanderer’s Diary, in rare occasions, the game stops when the boss battle begins.
    We are working to fix this issue in a future update, but if you happen to encounter this issue, please close the app and restart the game.

How to download updates for Shiren the Wanderer: The Mystery Dungeon of Serpentcoil Island for the Nintendo Switch?

To download the updates for Shiren the Wanderer: The Mystery Dungeon of Serpentcoil Island, you have three options:

  • let the console do its thing if you have automatic downloads activated, and didn’t completely turn it off

If not…

  • try to launch the game from the Home Menu while being connected to the internet. You should get a prompt when doing so: simply follow the instructions on screen;

OR

  • select the game > press either + or – to go to the Options page > select Software update > select Via the Internet.

To check that you have the latest version installed, simply select the game on the Home Menu, and press – or + to go to the Options: the version number is displayed just below the game title.
