Fire Emblem Heroes: more details about Ver. 2.1.0 (new options in Weapon Refinery, more Sacred Seals, Arena, more)

Earlier today, Nintendo and Intelligent Systems released a brand new Software update for Fire Emblem Heroes. It brings the game to Ver 2.1.0 (you can find the official patch notes on this page), and while it’s not as meaty as Ver. 2.0.0, it does provide some really interesting new features and improvements.

Let’s start with Hero Merit: the upper limit has been raised from 3 000 to 4 000, allowing you to earn more Hero Feathers thanks to your Heroes. If you have characters that have already reached the previous limit, you can once again earn feathers thanks to them until they reach the new upper limit.

Getting prepared before a battle is pretty important, and so the next new feature / improvement is particularly interesting. Using icons on the map details screen (before battle), you can edit your teams, check the map layout, and check out the related quests. Those icons are available before any battle: Story Maps, Training Tower, Special Maps, etc…. with the exception of the Arena!

The Weapon Refinery has also been updated, with two new weapon skills that can now be upgraded there:

  • Cymbeline (from Sanaki: Begnion’s Apostle)
  • Parthia (from Jeorge: Perfect Shot)

Reminder: to access the Weapon Refinery, you need to clear the second Intermission Maps (Book I, after Chapter 13).

But that’s not all: some new Sacred Seals have also been added, and can be crated from the Sacred Seal forge:

  • Brash Assault 1
  • Savage Blow 1
  • Hone Spd 1
  • Close Def 1
  • Guidance 1
  • Atk Smoke 1

Reminder: to access the Sacred Seal Forge, you need to clear the first Intermission Maps (Book I, after Chapter 13), called “A Power Awakens”. Also, you cannot have two of the same type of Sacred Seal, so think carefully about which Hero will get each one!

Good news for players who like to battle at the Arena: starting with the next season (from January 16th), new maps will begin appearing there. Some of them include a new terrain type: trenches, that slow down cavalry Heroes (they can only move one space in those).

If you don’t like the Arena, there’s nothing to worry about: new maps with trenches will also appear in other modes, as long as they’re appropriate to the theme. If you like cavalry Heroes, or instead always struggle against them, those trenches are bound to spice things up during battle, as you will have to come up with new strategies to deal with them.

Fire Emblem Heroes Ver. 2.1.0 also introduces the following changes:

  • when dealing with skills unique to a specific Hero, the game now displays the following warning: “This skill can only be equipped by its original unit.”;
  • some weapon skills can only be equipped by the original unit, and therefore cannot be inherited by another Hero;
  • if there’s a non-weapon skill that cannot be equipped by units of certain weapon or movement types, icons in the description will tell you so;
  • when equipping or changing Sacred Seals, you can now choose to start with either selecting a Sacred Seal or selecting a character;
  • Voting Gauntlet: starting with the next one, Heroes without an equipped weapon skill will not appear as enemies or allies;
  • on iPhone X, a status bar now appear in the upper portion of the screen while playing.

Finally, here’s some of the bugs fixed with Ver. 2.1.0 of Fire Emblem Heroes:

  • Prerequisites related to skill inheritance and weapons upgraded with the Weapon Refinery have been corrected. Weapons where the name changes after upgrading, like Slaying Edge+ or Guard Bow+, can now be inherited with the correct preupgrade Weapon skill as a prerequisite (check out this post for more details about the issue)
  • Fixed bug on devices running iOS 11 where the descriptions that appear when tapping a Hero’s name or skill icon at the top of the screen would immediately disappear.

As usual, you can find more details about the various Events and Content updates for Fire Emblem Heroes on this page!
