Dragon Quest XI: more details (new character, new monsters, gameplay systems), scan

Last week, we got our first new details about Dragon Quest XI: Sugisarishi Toki o Motomete in quite a while courtesy of Jump magazine. And this week, the magazine has some more new details for us. There’s a new character, some new monsters, some gameplay systems, and more. A big thanks to Gematsu for the translation!

The new character is a rather eccentric traveler known as Sylvia, who made it his mission to make people smile. As for the new monsters, we have:

  • Mokokii: this monster carries a huge needle, that it can use to tear holes everywhere;
  • Lantern Kozou: it used to be a lantern, but after being discarded, it began resenting humans and became a monster. It’s one of the several monsters that only appear at night.

Dragon Quest XI: Sugisarishi Toki o Motomete has several features that really improve the gameplay experience. For example, there’s purple speech bubbles: if you find a character with one right next to them, that means they have a request for you. Also, you can hear character voices through their speech bubble as you approach them.

When riding a horse, you can actually hit monsters by riding over them (something not possible on Nintendo 3DS, it seems). Naturally, it’s safe to assume you cannot do that if the monsters are too big and/or powerful.

Finally, there’s Camping (that was mentioned a few months ago): on the field, you can rest next to a bonfire. This allows you to get your HP back, but also save, have conversations with the other party members, buy items from traveling merchants, and much more.

Here’s the scan from V-Jump:
