Miitomo: TV commercial (Japan)

MiitomoToday, Miitomo comes out in Europe and North America. Just like in Japan, Nintendo didn’t say when exactly the app would be available for download, but explained that players would be notified via Twitter whenever it’s live. If you managed to install the app manually, the update released yesterday allows you to use a European or North American Nintendo Account (if you really cannot wait any longer).

While we wait for Miitomo to be released in European and North America, let’s look at what’s happening in Japan. Today, Nintendo revealed a TV commercial for the game. It shows a schoolgirl discovering something really peculiar about one of her classmates thanks to Miitomo.

Here it is:

So far, the app has been downloaded over 1 million times in Japan alone, mostly thanks to word of mouth. But for the app to be truly successful, Nintendo needed to start getting serious about advertising it. After all, even the biggest game companies on mobile platforms spend millions in advertising each month (Clash of Clan, Candy Crush Saga, etc.). Will this first TV Commercial resonate well with the Japanese audience?

Unfortunately, we don’t know if/when Nintendo will start advertising Miitomo in Europe and North America.
