We’ve added a couple of gameplay videos: you will find them below, after the break!

Today, Nintendo World Report published their preview for Yoshi’s Wooly World, which comes with lots of gameplay videos (that you will find below, at the bottom of this post!).

Yoshi's Woolly World

This preview allows us to get some more details about the game, starting the Power Badges. As announced previously, those allow you to use various special powers while in the levels.

However, there’s a catch: you can only use one at a time, and they only last until the end of the level when used. What’s more, not all of them are available right from the start: you’ll have to progress through the game in order to unlock them all. That being said, those powers can be used at any time in the levels (quite handy if you’re looking to get 100% everywhere!), and you can even change your ability mid-level.

As you might expect, each of the world has its own theme:

– World 1: Grassy Plains
– World 2: Desert
– World 3: Playground
– World 4: Jungle

Next, some example of levels (and gameplay mechanics) in the game:

– Bounceabout Woods: all the trees are bouncepads;
– Crawdaddy Beach: you use the water to have the yarn balls do water skips;
– Wobbly Mobile Jaunt: you have to climb on mobiles (similar to the one from the Super Smash Bros. for Wii U stage) by tilting them in order to progress;
– Scarf-Roll Scamper: you have to walk on fabric rolls, but without being able to use yarn balls;
– Spooky Scraps! Don’t Get Spooked: a special level in which platforms only appear if you’re behind a curtain. Problem is: enemies can’t be defeated when you’re behind it!

And just like previous Yoshi games (and Kirby’s Epic Yarn, by the same developers), Yoshi will be able to transform in Yoshi’s Woolly World. Here’s some examples: motorcycle, mermaid (you can press a button to make him do a spin-attack), plane, umbrella, giant, and more…

As for difficulty, each levels has various checkpoints from which you’ll start again if you happen to die. However, there seems to be a real sense of progression, with levels getting progressively harder and harder.

By the way, the game can be played with the following controllers:

– Wii U GamePad
– Wii Remote
– Wii Classic Controller (Pro)
– Wii U Pro Controller

If you use the Wii Remote, you can actually steer the balls of yarn by tilting the controler, which is quite handy. It’s quite surprising you cannot do the same with the Wii U GamePad!

Finally, here’s a YouTube playlist with various gameplay videos for the game:
