Yooka-Laylee: introducing the Ghost Writers

Today, Playtonic revealed some of the enemies for Yooka-Laylee: the Ghost Writers. When they were still alive, they were the authors of the mysterious book worlds. But one day, they met a rather mysterious demise, and became ghosts: their unsettled and cursed soul is now wandering endlessly, in search of (spectral) salvation. If you manage to save their souls, you can get some special rewards!

According to Gavin Prince, the Ghost Writers add a fun twist to collecting. There’s different types hidden in the various worlds of the game, and they have their own requirements for being catched.

“Mix that with the different areas in which you’ll find them, and hopefully they’ll result in a fresh challenge with every encounter”.

Steve Mayles also talks a bit about the design process. He explains that since those characters are not based on an existing creature, he went a bit crazy with them and had quite a lot of fun creating them. Apparently, there was only supposed to be one Ghost Writer, but since he sketched over 50 thumbnails, it actually gave the team the idea of having 5 characters with different abilities.
