Reggie Fils-Aimé on Nintendo Switch sales

In an interview with Variety, Reggie Fils-Aimé revealed that the Nintendo Switch was performing at “historic levels” for Nintendo, in the United States. More specifically, he mentioned The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and Super Mario Odyssey, which all have a +50% attach rate in that country, something “unheard of” for Nintendo games before (especially during the second year of a console, and with 3 games at once).

Also, the console itself is generating more revenue per user as ever before, in the United States:

[T]he Nintendo Switch here in the United States is generating a level of revenue per piece of hardware that we’ve never seen in our history. And so our consumers are engaged, they’re buying software, they’re playing software, as long as we continue to do this, we’re going to have a very vibrant platform which will continue to attract the very best from the big third-party developers as well as the smaller independent developers.

Wii Shop Channel

Earlier this week, Nintendo announced that users in Japan will be able to get a refund on unused Wii Points from the Wii Shop Channel from February 20th to August 30th. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like Nintendo is planning to have a similiar thing in Europe and North America: there wasn’t anything when the Nintendo DSi Shop closed either…

Quick reminder: the Wii Shop Channel will close on January 31st. You already cannot add any Wii Points, but you will no longer be able to purchase anything from that date either. Nintendo hasn’t specified when downloads for already purchased content will no longer be available.
