Kirby 25th Anniversary Pupupu Paper-Tape Music Box available for pre-order

This year was the 25th Anniversary of the Kirby series, and a ton of merchandise was released to celebrate. Granted, the Kirby series always gets a ton of merchandise (more than any other Nintendo series), so you would definitely be forgiven if you didn’t really notice any difference.

Some of the items released for the Kirby 25th Anniversary were pretty unique, but none quite as much as the one revealed by Tokyo Otaku Mode earlier this week: a Kirby 25th Anniversary Pupupu Paper-Tape Music Box, created by paper tunes. You insert music sheet cards in the machine, turn the handle, and listen to the music while looking at the scene unfold on the card.

If you’ve never seen such a music box in action, here’s a short video that shows how it works:

The Kirby 25th Anniversary Pupupu Paper-Tape Music Box comes on a wooden stand, and with a set of music sheet cards featuring characters and levels from various Kirby games. Naturally, the usual holes found on such cards are star-shaped… this is a Kirby item, after all!

The music box comes with 5 music sheet cards:

  • Green Greens (from Kirby’s Dream Land)
  • Rainbow Resort BGM (from Kirby’s Adventure)
  • Gourmet Race (from Kirby Super Deluxe)
  • Bouken no Hajimari (from Kirby’s Return to Dream Land)
  • jingle interlude music
