The Super Mario Bros. Movie grosses over 12 billion Yen in Japan

After a pause last week, Toho (the Japanese distributor) has sent a new press release to share some more details about the performance of the Super Mario Bros. Movie in Japan. According to that PR, the movie has now grossed over 12 billion Yen in Japan (12,002,742,780 Yen / $84,585,849), with 8,390,181 tickets sold. A pretty remarkable feat it achieved in just 8 weeks!

Toho also shared additional data about the movie’s performance in Japan:

  • 3rd most successful western animated movie (was ranked #4 as of June 5th)
  • 16th most successful animated movie (western + Japanese) (was ranked #17 as of June 5th)
  • 31st most successful movie (was ranked #37 as of June 5th)

Worldwide, the movie has now grossed $1,326,751,980 (18th most successful movie of all times), with $572,138,980 in the United States (14th most successful movie of all times), and $754,613,000 in international markets.
