Skylanders SuperChargers revealed; trailer and screenshots

Just like Disney with Disney Infinity and Warner Bros. with LEGO Dimensions, Activision wasn’t able to prevent to keep the new iterations of their popular toys-to-life franchise under wraps until the official reveal. It’s for this reason that today’s announcement didn’t come as a surprise for many people, though it’s bound to please the fans (the parents… not so much!).

Skylanders SuperChargers is the latest entry in the very lucrative Skylanders franchise (over 3 billion in revenue and 250 million toys sold since 2011). Developed by Vicarious Visions, the main new feature of the game is the vehicles (there’s 20 of them: air, land, underwater) that players will be able to use in order to navigate through Skylands. They will even be able to customise them with modifications and weapon upgrades.

But that’s not all: Skylanders SuperChargers also introduces a brand new class of heroes, called “SuperChargers” (there’s 20 of them, and they come with new moves, new weapons, and powerful attacks). By combining a SuperCharger Skylander with its signature vehicle, you can get a “SuperCharged combination”, which allows you to get a special mod that boosts the stats of both the vehicle and the Skylander.

If you already own Skylanders toys from previous iterations, you will be able to use them all in Skylanders SuperChargers (which is definitely a great news for parents who had to buy them all!).

Finally, some details about the story: in order to take down the Skylanders, Kaos is going to use his “Doomstation of Ultimate Doomstruction”, a rather sinister machine that can eat the sky itself. But unfortunately for him, Master Eon foresaw this, and has assembled a special team of Skylanders to go and stop him aboard the special vehicles.

Here’s the reveal trailer for Skylanders SuperChargers:

Here’s some screenshots:

Skylanders SuperChargers (Wii U, Wii, Nintendo 3DS) will launch on September 20th in North America, September 24th in Australia, and September 25th in Europe. In North America, the starter pack will cost $74.99 in North America, and includes two new Skylanders characters, a Skylanders vehicle, the latest Portal of Power and the game. On Wii and Nintendo 3DS, the adventure will be different from the Wii U version.
