[Japan] Pokémon Legends: Arceus sells over 1.4 million units at launch and outperforms Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl

Last week, Nintendo and The Pokémon Company released Pokémon Legends: Arceus, a brand new Pokémon game developed by Game Freak. This title does away with the traditional Pokémon formula, with a much stronger focus on exploration. How did players react to such a game? In Japan, pretty positively! Early Famitsu data reveal that Pokémon Legends: Arceus sold over 1.4 million units during its launch week-end in that country.

To be more precise, the game sold 1 424 657 units, which is slightly more than Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl during its launch week-end (1 396 000 units). Also, that number does not include digital sales, which are expected to be particularly strong (we will have to wait for Nintendo’s data in May to know how the game sold digitally).

But Pokémon Legends: Arceus didn’t just outsell Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, it also outsold all other Nintendo Switch games at launch with the (notable) exception of Animal Crossing: New Horizons (1 881 000 units sold).
