[E3 2016] Paper Mario: Color Splash – New details, trailer, screenshots, boxart, more

Paper-Mario-Color-Splash-1Paper Mario: Color Splash is the latest entry in the Paper Mario series, and it leads Mario all the way to Prism island. Unfortunately, he’s not really going there on vacation: the island’s colours are vanishing, and he will have to use the Paint Hammer to restore them.

If you colour colourless areas, you can solve puzzles, search for clues, and more. For example, certain items or objects can only be used if they’re painted, and with the right colour to boot. There’s also colourless Toads to revive, thanks to your trusty Paint Hammer.

Gameplay-wise, Paper Mario: Color Splash is pretty close to Paper Mario: Sticker Star, with a similar Action-Adventure gameplay. That being said, the battle system has been changed: Mario still uses Battle Cards to launch attacks, but you can now power up them up by painting them. You can also summon various items, thanks to the Things card, but also allies, thanks to the Enemy cards.

Finally, Nintendo mentions the cutout feature, which allows you to extract areas from environments. You can do so to remove obstacles blocking your progress, find secrets, and more. And a little surprise: the Koopalings will make their first appearance in the Paper Mario series in this game!
