Dragon Quest VIII: the producer talks about the lack of 3D and some of the changes

On Friday, V-Jump uploaded a gameplay video for Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King on Nintendo 3DS. In it, Noriyoshi Fujimoto (the producer) talk a bit about the lack of 3D in the game, some of the changes in this 3DS version of the game, and more.

The map on the bottom screen is one of the new features of this Nintendo 3DS version, with the various areas indicated with markers. Just by touching them, you can see the name of each area, which apparently makes navigating the world much easier.

Noriyoshi Fujimoto also explains that 3D isn’t supported in the fields (which seems to imply that battles and other areas will have 3D) for one main reason: it would double the memory use. With 3D, it would have been really hard (if not downright impossible) to have visible encounters, and the draw distance would have to be lowered.

Another addition to Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King are blue treasure chests. Unlike the orange ones, those will respawn over time, and they contain various things such as Gold.

Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King (3DS) comes out on August 27th in Japan.
