Last year, during E3 2014, Nintendo made a rather surprising announcement: Devil’s Third, the latest game from Tomonobu Itagaki (known for the Ninja Gaiden and Dead or Alive series), would be published by Nintendo. Previously announced as a PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 title by THQ, it was picked up by Nintendo after THQ went under, a couple of years ago.

But since that announcement at E3 2014, Nintendo hasn’t mentionned the game even once. With E3 2015 just around the corner, it was pretty much guaranteed we were going to hear about it again pretty soon… and we did, sooner than we expected!

Today, Nintendo announced that Devil’s Third would come out on August 4th in Japan, where it will only be available via Amazon.co.jp (which shows that Nintendo isn’t expecting stellar sales for the game).

On the product page, the Japanese boxart and some screenshots can be found:

Nintendo also opened the official website, which can be found there. The company also revealed an overview video, in which Tomonobu Itagaki talks about the game, its gameplay, its story, its multiplayer, and more. We’re most likely going to get an English version of this video next week, as part of the usual “Developer Videos” series at E3.

In the mean time, here’s the Japanese version of the overview video for Devil’s Third:

Devil’s Third (Wii U) comes out on August 4th in Japan, and later this year in Europe and North America.
