Super Mario Run: more details (game modes, number of levels), footage, and screens

Earlier today, Nintendo announced that Super Mario Run, the very first Super Mario game on smart devices, would be released on December 15th worldwide. Shortly after, the official website was updated, providing us with additional details about the game, along with some screenshots and gameplay footage.

Let’s start right away with the gameplay footage:

On that website, Nintendo details the three game modes:

World Tour

This is the “main” mode of the game. You have to control Mario through many levels, with one goal: save the Princess Peach, who has been kidnapped by Bowser. Nintendo promises the usual variety in levels: plains, caverns, ghost houses, airships, castles, and more. The game features a total of 24 brand new levels (optimised for mobile gameplay), in 6 worlds (4 levels each).

Toad Rally

This is the competitive mode of the game. Your goal is quite simple: compete against your friends, family, and players from all around the world, in order to get the best score possible. In this mode, you have to collect lots of coins, and a bunch of Toads cheer you on. If you play really well, then those Toads will come live in your kingdom!

In order to get the best score possible, you can perform stylish moves: this fills up your gauge, allowing you to trigger Coin Rush.

Unlike World Tour, you need Rally Tickets if you want to play Toad Rally. How to get those precious tickets? By clearing worlds, via bonus games in your kingdom, and more. Since there is only a one-time fee to access all content Super Mario Run has to offer (at launch), you will not be able to purchase tickets using micro-transactions.

Kingdom Builder

In Toad Rally, you collect coins and Toads. But what do you do with those? You build your very own Mushroom Kingdom! You can pick up the buildings to build, the decorations, and more. There are over 100 kinds of items to collect, and it’s probably safe to assume there will also be special distributions
