Zelda: Breath of the Wild – Details, screens, and video for the 1st DLC pack

A few months ago, before the game was even launched, Nintendo announced that The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild would get some DLC. Said DLC is only available as part of an Expansion Pass, which is currently available for purchase on the Nintendo eShop for both the Wii U and the Nintendo Switch version of the game. It’s the first time ever a Legend of Zelda game is getting DLC.

Nintendo previously gave a short overview of the contents of both DLC packs, but didn’t have many details about them. And today, the company finally shared some concrete details, and even some pictures and a video, for the first DLC pack (launching this Summer).

Trial of the Sword Challenge

This is basically the equivalent of the Cave of Ordeals from The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. With this challenge, you have to face waves of enemies, and you can only proceed to the next room when all enemies are defeated. You actually start without any equipment or weapons.

There’s a total of 45 rooms, and when you’ve cleared them all, the true power of the Master Sword will be awakened (it will always been in its glowing powered-up state).

Hero’s Path Mode

This is the new map feature that was previously teased. It allows you to see where you’ve been during the last 200 hours of gameplay. Thanks to the time tracker, you can even see where you’ve spent the most time. With this feature, you can easily see which areas you’re yet to explore, and maybe find some hidden shrines you’re yet to find.

Hard Mode

Do you find The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild hard? Well, Hard Mode was certainly not going to make it any easier. Here’s everything it changes:

  • enemies now gradually regain health, which means you need to kill them as quickly as possible. If your equipment is underpowered, you will be in serious trouble, as all your weapons will break before you can kill them;
  • all enemies are powered up by one level (for example: Red Bokoblins are now Blue Bokoblins);
  • enemies can have a higher max. level as in Normal Mode;
  • enemies (and treasure chests) can now be found in the sky.

Travel Medallion

Not happy with the fast travel system in the game? The Travel Medallion is for you, then. Using this new item (found in a chest hidden somewhere in the world), you can register your current location as a fast travel point on the map. That way, you can easily go somewhere else and return to where you were, which is going to be useful when you need to stock on some items (before tackling an enemy base), or make a tactical retreat.

More amour and Korok Mask

8 new treasure chests will be placed around Hyrule, and contain armour themed after previous The Legend of Zelda titles such as Majora’s Mask or Twilight Princess.

The Korok Mask will also be added (hidden in a treasure chest somewhere in the world): it shakes whenever you’re near a hidden Korok location. Pretty handy for players looking to get all 900 Koroks hiding in Hyrule!

Finally, here’s some pictures for the first DLC pack for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild on Wii U and Nintendo Switch:

The first DLC Pack for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will be available this Summer worldwide. The second one will launch this Winter.
