The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild to get some DLC, Expansion Pass detailed

In about two weeks, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will be released on Wii U and the Nintendo Switch. It’s going to be the biggest Zelda game to date, with a vast open world to explore. If that’s not enough for you and/or you already want more (despite the game not being available yet!), Nintendo has some good news for you: the game will get some DLC!

For the very first time ever, a Legend of Zelda game is going to get some DLC. But what kind of DLC can we expect for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild? Well, there’s two DLC Packs, and some bonuses, that will not be sold separately. To get them, you will have to buy the Expansion Pass, sold £17.99/€19.99/$19.99/CA$28.19, which will be available for purchase from March 3rd.

Here’s what is included in each DLC pack:

Expansion Pass Bonus (available on March 3rd)

Adds 3 new treasure chests in the Great Plateau, with the following inside:

  • a shirt featuring the Nintendo Switch logo, that Link can wear during his adventure. It will only be available anywhere else;
  • useful items

DLC Pack 1 (available this Summer)

Adds the following:

  • a Cave of Trial challenge
  • a new Hard Mode
  • additional map features

DLC Pack 2 (available this Winter)

  • new original story
  • new dungeon
  • additional challenges

Nintendo specifies that both the Nintendo Switch and the Wii U version of the game are getting the Expansion Pass, and that the contents of the DLC packs are exactly the same in the two versions.

Here’s a video with Eiji Aonuma introducing the Expansion Pass:

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (Wii U, Switch) comes out on March 3rd worldwide. The Expansion Pass will be available on the same day, though the first DLC Pack is coming this Summer, and the second one this Winter. The Upcoming Releases page has been udpated!
