Aonuma: The Legend of Zelda Wii U skipping E3, won’t come out this year

Last year, during its Digital Event at E3, Nintendo showed the very first footage of the new The Legend of Zelda game on Wii U. Several months later, during the Game Awards 2015, Eiji Aonuma and Shigeru Miyamoto showed some gameplay footage, and confirmed that the game would be launched this year.

Originally, The Legend of Zelda Wii U was supposed to be shown at E3 this year, but it turns out it will skip the show entirely. Worse: the game isn’t coming out this year anymore, as Eiji Aonuma have decided it would be better to take the time and include all the ideas they’ve had for the game instead of focuing on releasing it before the end of the year, as promised.

Here’s a video annnouncement from Eiji Aonuma, in which he explains why the game has been delayed:

As I said in the video, we would like to take this time so we can bring you a very special experience, by making the ultimate Zelda game. Since we’d like to focus on developing the game we’ve decided to not show the game at this year’s E3.

Thank you for your continued support, and I hope you’ll look forward to the game!

The Legend of Zelda (Wii U) will come out next year, worldwide.
