Dragon Quest XI: Sugisarishi Toki o Motomete – New details and screens

Last week, Square-Enix updated the official website for Dragon Quest XI: Sugisarishi Toki o Motomete shared some more details and screenshots about the game.

First, we have some more details about the Skill Panels: that’s where you find all the skills for each character, arranged in panels (that come in various forms). To learn skills, you use the Skill Points earned by leveling up and then “unlock” the various cases in the panels. This also allows you to increase your stats, it seems.

Some of the skills you can unlock are based on weapons and the individual characteristics of each character, including the protagonist.

With such a system, players are free to choose which skills each character learns. You can try and get a wide variety of skills, to make your characters as versatile as possible, or you can aim for the strongest skills right from the getgo.

Here’s some of the skills found in the game:

  • Giga Slash (protagonist)
  • Slime Bow (Kamyu)
  • Magical Awakening (Veronica)
  • Melody of Fire (Senya)
  • Flute of Fascination (Silvia)
  • Vacuum Kick (Martina)
  • Aesthetic Enlightment (Rou)

Next, we have the Spell of Restoration, a password you can use to “save” your progress up to a certain point, and the continue your adventure from that point. Not everything is saved (such as the level, money, items, etc., which are replaced by pre-sets), and the story progression is also approximate, but at the very least, you will be able to keep playing on another platform if you want.

But there’s more: in its latest issue, Jump magazine shares details about two gameplay systems (which are linked)

  • Zones: when you enter those (during battles), your characters are enveloped in a blue aura, that temporarily enhance their abilities. They carry over to the next battle until they end;
  • Link: special techniques that characters can launch when inside a Zone. Those are quite powerful, andsurrounds your characters in a blue light and temporarily enhances their abilities. However, entering Zone also enables characters to use super powerful Link techniques where they attack together. The type of techniques you can use depends on the spells and special skills your characters know.

Here’s some examples of techniques:

  • Falcon Dance (Kamyu + protagonist): an incredibly fast chain attacker that pincers ennemies;
  • Rose Hurricane (Silvia + Rou + protagonist): a whirlwind attack;
  • Giga Burst (all party members): an incredibly powerful attack using a shining blade.

Finally, here’s some screenshots:
