In an interview with Siliconera, Kensuke Tanabe (Producer) and Risa Tabata (Assistant Producer) talked about Chibi Robo! Zip Lash, and explained why the game is platformer (of all things). It all started when Skip (who is developing the game along with Vanpool) asked if it would be possible to have Chibi Robo spin or throw his cord instead of having it plugged.

From that point onward, they started to think about all the kind of actions Chibi Robo would be able to do with his cord: destroying enemies, using it to climb a normally insurmountable wall, etc.. There’s also two types of panels:

– if you latch onto an orange panel, it pulls Chibi Robo towards it;
– if you latch onto a blue panel, you can pull it towards Chibi Robo.

But that’s not all: there’s also special items that change the length of Chibi Robo’s cord, as well as “Zip Lashes” (a special move that can be charged, and when thrown, it bounces off walls).

Here’s the main features of the game:

Climb, jump, run and throw your plug and cord in this all-new platforming game.
Whip enemies and ricochet your plug and cord off of walls to solve puzzles.
Tons of collectibles.
Tap the new Chibi-Robo amiibo figure to power up Chibi-Robo into “Super Chibi Robo” or use a Toy Capsule Machine to unlock the in-game Collectible Figures.
