Yo-kai Watch 3: more details, second trailer, screenshots, boxarts, more
Earlier this week, we learned from CoroCoro magazine leaks that Yo-kai Watch 3 would come out on July 16th in Japan. It will get two versions: Sushi and Tempura, with the usual differences between the two. Today, Level-5 finally revealed a second trailer for the game, along with more details and screenshots.
First, here’s the second trailer for the game:
As mentioned when the game was revealed, Yo-kai Watch 3 has two protagonists:
- Keita Amano (and Jibanyan), who moves to the United States due to his father’s work. Some of the locations include: St. Peanutsburg, a Residential Area (Suburbs), Keita’s home, the Johnson Space Center Lab of the NASU (NASA spoof);
- Misora Inaho (and USApyon), in Japon (actual name, not a typo!). Some of the locations include Sakura New Town (Springdale), Aobahara (Akihabara spoof), the NyaKB headquarters, and more.
Here’s some details about the characters from the Japan side of the story (from a previous report):
- USA-Pyon (voiced by Shigemoto Kotori): it keeps pretending to be tough, but actually hates being alone in its shop. When it talks, it just keeps adding “dani” at the end of its sentences. It was apparently the very first animal to be sent to space thanks to the NASU, which is where it met with Doctor Pyuri. When he’s angry, he activates Vader Mode.
- Misora Inaho (voiced by Yuuki Aoi): she admits being a bit of an otaku; she’s quite the shy person, and doesn’t really talk much with others at school (where she has a relatively tough time, even though she doesn’t really have a dark personality or anything). She’s an avid TV watcher, loves sci-fi, and actually believes that everyone at school is being possessed by aliens. Her little brother is called Riku.
- Yuuka Ishinomori: she’s Misora Inaho’s childhood friend, and together, they talk about a lot of thing (even though she’s not an otaku herself).
- Kirara Hoshikaze: a rich girl always followed by two escorts.
Together with USApyon, Misora Inaho runs a detective agency of some sort (something fans of the anime series are pretty faimilar with!).
Head after the break for the rest of this post!
During the adventure, you will get to control both characters, and you will switch from one to the other several times as the story progresses.
Yo-kai Watch 3 will also introduce a brand new battle system, which works in a 3×3 grid. You send three Yo-kai in battle, and you move their medals around in order to make formations, evade enemy attacks, and more. This new battle system is quite different from the one found in the first two entries, but there’s one element that hasn’t changed: Soultimate moves are still there!
Naturally, Yo-kai Watch 3 will introduce a new type of watch: the Yo-kai Watch Dream, which comes with a brand new type of medals. According to the official website, they are equipped with a YC chip (NFC chip), which allows you to record some data on them.
Medals are compatible with Yo-kai Watch 3, the new Yo-kai Watch Dream (the toy), and the Yo-kai Dream Roulette. If you play on a New Nintendo 3DS (XL), you will be able to use the NFC reader of the console. If you’re playing on a Nintendo 3DS (XL / 2DS), you will need the NFC Adapter.
As for Yo-kai, there will be over 600 of them in the game. That number includes all those from previous entries, new variants of previous Yo-kai, but also some brand new “Meriken/’murican” Yo-kai (american Yo-kai), new Legendary Yo-kai, and more. Naturally, there will also be some brand new bosses.
Here’s some of the new Yo-kai:
- Tomnyan
- K-Koma
- K-Jiro
- Brookrin (Brooklyn)
- HungryG
- Country Baaba
- Robonyan USA
- Obagett (Obaguette?)
- Iballoon
- Fuancan
- Inchicken
- Marunugget
- Ashita Girl (Tomorrow Girl)
- Maikka (My Car)
- Dasokks (The Socks)
- Pintocorn
- Nikuyaki (Meat + Barbecue)
- Android Yamada (from the Bagure family, a new family), who can use a beam attack
- Edison (Legendary Yo-kai)
- Colombus (Legendary Yo-kai)
Next, Level-5 detailed the early purchase bonuses:
- retail version: KK Brothers medal (Sushi) / medal of Tomnyan (Tempura)
- downloadable version: Sushijiba (Sushi) / Tenkoma (Tempura)
If you have save data for previous Yo-kai Watch games, you can get some special Yo-kai from those games:
- Yo-kai Sangokushi
- Yo-kai Watch Busters (both versions)
- Yo-kai Watch 2 (all three versions)
Finally, Level-5 reminds us that the game will get several major updated (Ver 2.0, 3.0, and 4.0).
Here’s the boxart of the two versions (and an official game carridge case, which can carry up to 12 cartridges):
Finally, here’s screencaps from the official website, and one extra screenshot:
