Super Smash Bros. Ultimate: all the details, pictures, videos, etc. from the official Twitter account (September 2018)

For Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS, Masahiro Sakurai himself shared new screenshots and details via Miiverse. We actually got a fair amount of brand new details about the games, including some that were not even mentioned in the various presentations (Nintendo Direct, E3, etc.). And for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, it looks like we’re getting daily updates on the official Super Smash Bros. account, in Japan.

It’s not clear if the tweets are from Masahiro Sakurai himself, or if they will be officially translated in English for the Nintendo of Europe and America Twitter accounts, though. In any case, we’re going to gather all the details, screenshots, and videos shared on the official Twitter account on this page, so you can find it all in one place (for convenience purposes)! In this post, you will find all the updates for September 2018. If you’re looking for the most recent updates, make sure to check out this page instead!

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate – Latest Daily Updates

September 28th

Today’s fighter is Lucario, whose attack power increases as it takes damage. If you like living on the edge, this is the fighter for you, as it truly shines when you’re in a pinch!

Lucario first appeared in Pokémon Diamond and Pearl (released back in 2006, on Nintendo DS). It’s a rare Pokémon that has unique abilities: it can catch the aura, as well as read its opponent’s minds and moves. It’s said those abilities allow it to understand human speech…

September 27th

Today’s item is the Death’s Scythe: a really powerful weapon that can KO highly damaged opponents in one hit, with a well placed Smash attack. When an opponent can be instant KOed with this weapon, a black aura surround them right before you attack!

September 26th

This week’s music track is “Battle! (Steven)” from Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, arranged by Soshi Abe!

And this week’s stage is Brinstar from the Metroid series, located in the underground of Planet Zebes. You need to be pretty careful about the acid that goes up and down the stage: if you touch it, you will take lots of damage. But on the other hand, if you’re about to fall off the stage, the acid will prevent an untimely K.O.!

September 25th

Today’s fighter is Lucina, Marth’s echo fighter. She shares most of her standard and special attacks with him, but unlike Marth’s, they’re as powerful whether you use the tip or the base of the sword.

Lucina first appeared in Fire Emblem Awakening, originally released on Nintendo 3DS in 2012 (in Japan). In this game, she first appears as a masked swordsman wielding the Falchion, who came from the future. She introduces herself as Marth, a hero from the past.

September 24th

Today’s item is another Assist Trophy, and probably one of the most ominous ones: it’s the Moon from The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask! When used, it appears in the sky, then gradually moves closer, towards the center of the stage. When it finally crashes, all opponents caught in the blast take lots of damage.

September 19th, 20th, and 21st

This week’s music track is “Happy Home Designer – Title Theme”, arranged by the one and only Kazumi Totaka (who composed the music of the game)!

And this week’s new stage is Onett, Ness’s hometown. It has a drugstore in the middle, and houses on either side. It also has some rather deadly cars that enter the stage from the right, and deal 30% if they hit you!

The latest two character showcases are for…

  • Ganondorf: in this entry, he sports his design from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. He’s also a bit slimmer, but don’t be fooled: his Warlock Punch is devastating! This time around, he uses his sword for all his smash attacks. For his Final Smash, he transforms into Ganon (The Demon King), and quickly charged forward.

  • Pikachu: it may look all cute, but it’s actually a rather fierce fighter, who uses electric moves such as Thunder Jolt and Thunder. You can tell whether it’s a male or female by looking at its tail: if it’s heart-shaped, it’s a female! One of his alternate costumes is Pikachu Libre. Pikachu first appeared in Pokémon Red and Green, released back in 1996 in Japan. In this game, you could catch it in the Viridian Forest, but in the third version, Pokémon Yellow Version: Special Pikachu Edition, you got it directly from Professor Oak, and it followed you around instead of staying in its PokéBall.

September 18th

Today’s item is another Assist Trophy: Shovel Knight! With his blue armour, his horn, and his iconic shovel, anyone even remotely familiar with the game would have recognised him instantly. He can bury opponents using his shovel, and while digging, he can throw rocks around. It looks like he can even dig up food!

September 17th

Today’s fighter is Isabelle, from the Animal Crossing series, who uses various trinkets from around the village to battle. Her side special is the Fishing Rod, which serves two purposes: she can use it to catch and bring opponents closer, but also use it as a recovery move.

Isabelle first appeared in Animal Crossing: New Leaf, released back in 2012 (in Japan) on Nintendo 3DS. She works as a secretary to the mayor (who happens to be… you), supporting them in their day to day activities. In the Japanese version, her name is “Shizue”, and the villagers affectionately call her “Shizu-chan”.

September 13th

Today’s fighter is Ryu, from Street Fighter series. Unlike with regular characters, you use directional command inputs to trigger his special moves (Hadoken, Shoryuken, etc.). What’s more, said moves will end up more powerful if launched using the command inputs from the original game! Also, you can even use a Shakunetsu Hadoken by inputting ←↙↓↘→ + the attack button when facing right!

The first appearance of Ryu on home console was in Street Fighter II, released back in 1992 on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. If you look at the manual, and more precisely at Ryu’s age, you realise that he’s now pretty old!

September 12th

This week’s music track is “Pikmin – Main Theme”, arranged by Hideki Sakamoto!

And this week’s stage is Summit. When the summit of the mountain clear up, you can slide down the incline straight into the ocean. The designers went and added lots of neat details: the aurora that floats over the mountaintop, the polar bear with sunglasses and swimming trunks in the ocean, and… a mysterious fish that tries to eat the fighters!

September 11th

Today’s fighter is Toon Link, a smaller, faster, and 100% more cartoony version of Link. Even his bombs have a nice cartoon-style explosion! His Final Smash sees him emit light from his left hand, before trapping opponents in the Triforce, and serving them a (not so) healthy dose of attacks.

Toon Link first appeared in The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, released back in 2002 on GameCube. In this game, the story begins on Link’s birthday, on Outset Island. Our hero goes on a journey across the Great Sea, on a ship known as the King of Red Lions. He can manipulate the winds using the mysterious Wind Waker.

September 10th

Today’s fighter is Bowser. Thanks to his power and weight, he’s quite the reliable fighter. He’s also pretty versatile: you can his Fire Breath to keep opponents at bay, and his other attacks to launch them off the stage. His Final Smash sees him transform into Giga Bowser, and liver one powerful punch.

September 6th

Today’s item is another Pokémon: Alolan Exeggutor. To say that this Pokémon is tall would be quite the understatement, but don’t be fooled: it does not necessarily mean it will end up in your way. It can make it easier for you to get a KO, or harder for opponents to send you flying. It all depends on where it’s place on the stage!

September 5th

This week’s music track is Fortress Boss (from Super Mario bros. 3), arranged by Akihiro Honda!

And today’s stage is none other than Final Destination. It looks like a rather simple stage: no stage hazards, no floating platforms, nothing. However, the background has been updated for this game, and may end up distracting some players who aren’t fully focused on the battle!

September 4th

Today’s fighter is King Dedede, a pretty slow character that compensates for his low speed with great recovery (something most heavyweight fighters don’t have). He can use a move called Hovering, which allows him to float after taking a deep breath. He apparently learned that very handy move after a defeat by Kirby, which inspired him to train really hard to master it.

September 3rd

Today’s fighter is Ike, who is known for his extremely powerful side smash. Unfortunately, that attack does leave him open, so you need to read your opponents’ moves carefully if you want to use it. In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, you can choose between his Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn costumes.

Ike first appeared in Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance, which was released back in 2005, on GameCube (and also appears in the sequel, Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn). At first he may seems rather unfriendly, and he’s not really the talkative type, but he has a big heart, and he’s actually quite gentle. He wields a big double-handed sword with ease.
