Splatoon: new update available (Ver. 1.2.0)

Earlier today, all online services for Splatoon went offline for maintenance for a couple of minutes (less than an hour in total). It was to prepare for a second Software update, which was released a few minutes after the maintenance started.

This one brings the game to Ver. 1.2.0, but unfortunately, we’re not quite sure what it does. Indeed, Nintendo did not provide any patch notes for this Software update, and we’re most likely going to have to wait a bit until fans do some research before knowing what was added and/or changed in this new version of the game.

Apparently, it fixes an exploit involving Spyke, improves framerate (in Inkopolis) and improves the loading times in some areas, but we don’t have an official confirmation.

In the mean time, it’s highly recommended you download this Software update as soon as possible. To do so, you have two options:

– let the console do its things if you have automatic downloads activated. In that case, your Wii U should download and install the update automatically;
– launch the update process manually, by selecting the game from the Home Menu (and not the Quick Menu, which bypasses the Software update check).

In any case, you’re going to need 45MB of free space on your Wii U or external HDD in order to download this update.
