Pokémon GO: over 80 Pokémon from the Johto region and new features to be added later this week

Last year, in December, Niantic added a few new Pokémon (from the Johto region) to Pokémon GO, but it was only a couple of “baby” Pokémon that you could get from eggs. Players have been waiting for new Pokémon to find and catch for months, and they will finally get some later this week… over 80 of them in fact!

Just like the baby Pokémon from December, those 80+ Pokémon all come from the Johto region. Naturally, that includes the three starters: Chikorita, Cyndaquil, and Totodile. And just like in Pokémon Gold and Silver, gender-specific variations will also be introduced. But that’s not all: Niantic will also add quite a lot of new features to Pokémon GO, and not minor ones this time.

Here’s everything planned for this update:

  • Additional Pokémon: more than 80 new Pokémon, from the Johton region. Includes gender-specific variations;
  • New Evolutions: some Pokémon from the original Pokémon games got an evolution in Pokémon Gold and Silver. In order to make those evolve, you will need new Evolution items (to be found in PokéStops);
  • New Encounter Gameplay: Pokémon will react in new ways when you encounter them in the wild, and try to catch them. Item carousels will also added to the encounter screen, allowing you to easily and quickly select Berries and Poké Balls;
  • New Berries: two new barries will be available from the spinnable Photo Disc at PokéStops. The first one is the Nanab Berry, that slows the movements of a Pokémon (making it easier to catch), and the second one is the Pinap Berry (which doubles the amount of Candy you will receive if your next catch attempt is successful);
  • New Avatars and an Expanded Wardrobe: you will be able to customise your avatar with a new selection of hats, shirts, pants, and other items.

Here’s a trailer for the update:

Unfortunately, we don’t know when exactly the new update will be released, just that it will be sometime this week!
