Zero Escape 3: details from the Aksys Panel at Anime Expo, recording

On Friday, Aksys Games made a rather important announcement for fans of the Zero Escape series (999, Virtue’s Last Reward): Zero Escape 3 does exist, and it will come out in Summer 2016. And on Saturday, during a second panel, additional details about the game were revealed: Aksys even showed the game’s main visual.

This main visual shows two of the characters from the game, though we don’t know who they are for now (it’s quite likely the man is related to Sigma):

As for the game’s setting, it will not surprise fans of the series (especially those who have completed Virtue’s Last Reward). The game takes place at the Mars Mission Test Site, where a groupe of people will find themselves trapped. The purpose of this facility is to conduct various tests (logistical, psychological) in order to see whether mankind can establish a colony on Mars. Apparently, there’s a dog along with the various test members.

During the panel, Aksys explained that development has just started, and that they only have the scenario text for now (they’ve already translated 50% of what they have so far). Just like the previous games in the series, Zero Escape 3 will be divided in two sections: puzzle parts, and scenario parts.

At one point, Kazutaka Kodaka (Director of the Danganronpa series) came on stage, and explained that Kotaro Uchikoshi had already shown him the ending of Zero Escape 3. According to him, that ending is “[…] pretty crazy. It’s probably the most out of this world ending so far”.

The two men are actually great friends, and happen to work at the same company: one day, they might end up working on the same game… at least, that’s what Kazutaka Kodaka is hoping for. Apparently, Kotaro Uchikoshi rarely works at the company’s office, and prefers to stay at manga cafés (where it’s quieter). Kodaka also said he’s impressed that Kotaro Uchikoshi manages to come up with such great stories without looking at other games or manga for inspiration.

Finally, some interesting details about the 4inifinity.co website: “infinity” stands for “time”, and “4” stands for “Mars” (which is the 4th planet in the solar system). All the words that appeared gradually on the website, over the past few weeks, are actually clues about Zero Escape 3. Aksys Games is going to leave it online for at least a year, so that when fans can finally play the game, they will be able to look at the website and see how everything ties in.
