New Free Story Quest: Black Tides

A new threat washes ashore!

Two elite-level Templars known as “Black Cross” are called to Japan to hunt Naoe and Yasuke for all the trouble they have caused. But as is often the case with the Templar Order, those Black Cross may have additional goals of their own: It’s up to our two protagonists to prevent them from acquiring whatever they seek – and manage to stay alive…

New End-game Feature: Domains

A brand-new Animus activity that will put your RPG build crafting skills to the test as you tackle 5 new gameplay simulations across 10 challenge levels.

MOD, an Assassin hacker, has created a new type of simulation called “Domains.” These trials are designed to help the Dark Animus users sharpen their combat and survival skills. Those who can rise to the challenge can earn dozens of new and remixed outfits, weapons, trinkets and engravings.

The higher the difficulty, the more gameplay modifiers will be applied. The goal is to push you out of your comfort zone and make you rethink your loadouts. A strategy that works in one Domain may not in the next. “Time to get those Mythic and Artifact upgrades you’ve been putting off!”

MOD has an exclusive shop and in-game currency you can use to purchase new end-game gear sets, new powerful engravings, and a progression tree to support the Domain’s increasing challenges. As you push through higher difficulties, MOD will reward you with weapons and armors that longtime Animus users may recognize.

And you will need it all if you want to beat the hardest challenge levels (and get the secret rewards along the way!)

Note: None of these items will ever be in the store or the exchange. These are Domain-exclusive, for bragging rights only!

Quality of Life HUB Improvements

Change to the access to Animus HUB features in the main menu.

We’ve changed the access to the HUB features in the main menu to harmonize with how they are accessed from gameplay. The System menu will now only be accessible through the Shadows’ Memory page.

Bug Fixes & Improvements

Gameplay

  • Damage increase for “Shurikens” fired from the “Bank Shot” and “Triple Threat” tools mastery upgrade.[JF4.1]
  • All abilities that destroy enemy armor are now half as effective when used against bosses.
  • Fixed an issue preventing the “weak point attacks from making enemies vulnerable a second time” engraving from unlocking correctly.
  • Fixed an issue where Yasuke’s knowledge bonus that granted damage reduction against melee or ranged attacks had no effect.
  • Enemies now take fall damage from shorter heights, resulting in more overall fall damage.
  • Damage from “Poison Kunai” thrown by enemies is reduced.
  • Damage from “Explosive Grenades” thrown by enemies is reduced.[JF5.1]
  • Up to 6 “Corrupted Castles” are now available each season.
  • Fixed an issue with Naoe’s “Katana Sheath” being stuck to her.

UI

  • Forge engraving lists have been reordered, and a new “Critical Category” has been added.[JF6.1]
  • Fixed an issue where some perks are shown in the wrong forge category engraving list.
  • Fixed an issue where some perks and knowledge skills displayed the wrong icons.
  • Fixed an issue where the “Damage when Hitting Vulnerable Enemies” perk was missing from the stat sheet.
  • Naoe’s “Peasant Hat Headgear” perk now has extra text in the stat sheet clarifying it only triggers when below 1 adrenaline.[JF7.1]
  • Fixed an issue where Yasuke’s knowledge bonus “Damage with Combo Enders” showed a value 10 times higher than intended in the stat sheet.
  • Pins and world markers are now saved through travels in Japan and Awaji.

Gears & Perks

  • Perks listed below have been reworked to a % of an adrenaline chunk and have been rebalanced to a lower value:
    • Adrenaline Tools
    • Adrenaline on Headshot
    • Adrenaline on Critical Hit
    • Adrenaline over half health
    • Adrenaline under half health
    • Adrenaline on afflicted enemies
    • Adrenaline on posture attack
    • Adrenaline on vulnerable enemies
  • Perk present on “Whisper of Gold Long Katana” now increases ability damage by 100% (up from 50%).
  • Fixed an issue where Naoe’s “Kusarigama” perk “Affliction on Entangled Enemy” dealt lower damage than intended when triggering bleed with entanglement.
  • Fixed an issue with “Blade of Yumminess” missing from inventory in some cases.
  • “Teppo” and “Bow” weapons can now be engraved with armour damage and armour piercing perks.
  • Fixed an issue where the “Arrownomics Bow” perk could be engraved on amulets.
  • Fixed an issue where the “Golden Chamber Teppo” perk could be engraved on amulets.
  • Perk present on Naoe’s “Ethereal Cloth Headgear” now triggers when health is below 15% (up from 10%).
  • Perk present on Naoe’s “Pink Petal Kosode Light Armour” and Yasuke’s “Sakura Bloom Armour” now converts adrenaline to 20% health on death (up from 10%).
  • Fixed an issue to prevent Yasuke’s “Riddle Scroll Beacon Trinket Perk” from reverting to default perk.
  • Fixed an issue where “Consecutive Enemy Kills” perk would not reset when combat ended.
  • Fixed an issue where “Consecutive Enemy Kills” perk would reset upon being damaged.
  • Perks with the condition “with backstab” can now correctly only be engraved on “Tanto” weapons.
  • Perks with conditions such as “with ranged weapons”, “with headshots”, and “while stationary” can no longer be engraved on melee weapons, where they would have no effect.
  • Perks with conditions such as “with melee weapons”, “with posture”, “with combo ender”, “when hitting multiple enemies” can no longer be engraved on ranged weapons, where they would have no effect.
  • Fixed an issue where some perks affecting affliction duration or granting adrenaline didn’t have their effect increased when engraved on enhanced items.
  • Fixed an issue where the “Critical Change with Melee Weapons” perk could be engraved on armours instead of helmets.

Bo for Everyone!

Don’t have the Claws of Awaji Expansion? No worries!

You can now find non-legendary Bo weapon just by exploring the shadows of Feudal Japan. Once you’ve earned at least one Unique Bo, the non-legendary versions can start dropping from enemies, showing up in chests or appearing at merchants like any other weapon.

Mouse and Keyboard Support on Switch 2

A new way to play arrives! Mouse and Keyboard support is now available on the Nintendo Switch 2.

Take full control of Naoe and Yasuke in a whole new way, wielding your weapons with the precision and freedom of your favourite setup, to traverse the shadows of the night with delicate stealth. Your fight. Your style. Your way.

Gameplay

  • Fixed an issue with fast travel points being unavailable.
  • Enemies can now suffer up to 5 afflictions at the same time.
  • Fixed an issue with extra Rations being obtained from Claws of Awaji not being visible under maximum Rations in stats sheet.
  • Fixed an issue with damage increases not applying while unarmed.
  • Fixed an issue with various stat sources capping at +100%.

UI

  • Fixed crashing issue when checking add-on content.
  • Resolved an issue where total progression remained at 97.89% after all content was completed.
  • The Detailed Stat Sheet now shows Combo Ender damage and correctly reflects any damage issues.
  • Detailed Stat Sheet adjusted to now display capped and uncapped stats more clearly.
  • Fixed an issue after updating, encountering a ‘Missing Content’ error causing the player to lose all gear earned from the expansion Claws of Awaji.

Weapons & Perks

  • Corrected an issue for Yasuke’s Samurai passive ability “Defensive Break Level 3” showing +50 instead of 150% damage on enemy collisions.
  • Fixed an issue with the “Critical Insight” heighten senses upgrade being nonfunctional.
  • Fixed an issue with the “Hidden Onslaught” hidden hand upgrade being nonfunctional.
  • Fixed an issue with “Extended Duration” Tenzutsu Burst upgrade, from Claws of Awaji being nonfunctional.
  • Fixed an issue where the “Defensive Breach” upgrade would not show +50% damage on enemy collisions once upgraded to rank 3.
  • The “Oni’s Rage” Kanabo’s perk now specifies it spreads 25% bleed buildup on kill.
  • Fixed an issue with some trinket perks requiring the inventory to be closed before visible in Detailed Stat Sheet.
  • Fixed an issue with “Underworld Emissary Horns” helmet perk’s bonus damage not vanishing after entering a smoke bomb’s radius.
  • Fixed an issue with “Claws of the Tides” long Katana perk sometimes failing to make the next attack postured.

Manual Jump

It’s finally here!

We’ve heard your request and are bringing back a fan favorite feature for Parkour: The Manual Jump.

With the “Advanced Parkour” gameplay option enabled, the Parkour Up button now allows Naoe and Yasuke to jump at any time, making the world an even more dynamic playground for Parkour enthusiasts!

Detailed Stats Sheet

Take a deeper dive into the stats of your Loadouts and gear with the Detailed Stats Sheet.

Head to the Inventory Menu, and click either the right analog stick on Controller or TAB on Mouse and Keyboard, to see how all your gear, perks and loadouts work together in great detail to curate your build to your playstyle.

Critical Hits – Visual Improvements

We’ve significantly increased the visual feedback on enemies’ health bars when a Critical Hit lands. Allowing you to get a much better feel for how lethal your newest and greatest build actually is in practice.

New Entry Point for the Animus Menu

We’ve added a new entry point to the Animus Menu!

At the entrance of your Hideout you will find the Animus glitch. A new entry point to access the Projects, Exchange and Vault features quickly.

Bug fixes & Improvements

Stability

  • Fixed stability issues.
  • Fixed crashing issues when starting New Game+ on a platform where Claws of Awaji isn’t owned, using a save file that had already progressed through the Awaji storyline.

Gameplay

  • XP earned from contracts will no longer be reduced when the season changes.

World

  • Seasons will no longer transition when swapping characters.
  • Fixed an issue preventing NPCs from appearing in the hideout.
  • Collision with the eagle at viewpoints will no longer prevent interaction to synchronize.

Weapons & Perks

  • Fixed an issue where the Kusarigama and Naginata were granted double critical damage.
  • Perks that would throw smoke bombs will now reflect that while in Expert or Nightmare difficulties.
  • Addressed an issue where perk affliction buildup would visually impact items that were not equipped.
  • Perks will consistently work on afflicted enemies.
  • Fixed ‘Trigger Affliction On Deflect’ Engraving not working as stated.
  • Poison Damage perks will no longer increase Fire Affliction damage.
  • Fixed an issue where the “+50% Critical Chance while undamaged in combat” perk incorrectly only gave +5% for the Moonlight Crescent Robes.
  • Corrected an issue where the “+5% damage reduction per enemy in combat” perk was not functional.
  • Corrected an issue where the “+6% affliction buildup with tools” perk was not functional.
  • The Assassin Mastery perk now gives the correct amount of adrenaline on assassinations.
  • Addressed an issue where the “+10% damage per 10% health missing” perk granted extra damage while health was full.
  • The “Hawkeye” perk for the Tenzutsu Burst Teppo will no longer increase all damage by 50% and instead only the Teppo’s.
  • Fixed an issue where the following perks increased damage in unintended ways and would not affect armor damage:
    • Misfire perk: “+15% Damage, but 15% chance to Misfire” for the Bad News Teppo.
    • Damage Against a Single Enemy: “+35% damage when facing a single enemy” for the Eye of the Dragon Katana and Claw of the Dragon Long Katana.
    • Stack Damage After Block: “Stack +10% damage on next hit with each block” for the Sage’s Reach Naginata.
    • Damage While Surrounded: “+35% damage when surrounded by 2 or more enemies” for the Kaen Kusarigama.
    • Damage on Timed Hit: “+15% damage on next hit when pressing Light or Heavy Attack Button on hit” for the Flying Leaf Katana.
    • Celestial Hunger: “+100% Damage but removes all rations” for the Moon Eater Blade Katana.
    • Mystic Reach: “Far Reach increases Posture Damage by 15% and stacks up to 3 times” for the Fox Tail.
    • Damage for Unused Ability Slots: “+10% damage per unused Ability slot” for the Amaterasu’s Blessing.
    • Damage for Empty Armor Pieces: “+50% damage per empty Armor Piece” for the Minogame’s Protection.
    • Damage for Non-Legendary Gear: “+15% damage per non-Legendary or non-Artifact Gear equipped” for the Oni’s Fury.

  • Fixed an issue where Yasuke’s Teppo Mastery Armor Damage increase was incorrect.
  • Fixed an issue where text was missing at the Forge for the Fire and Frost perks.
  • The “Spread 25% affliction buildup on afflicted enemy kill” perk now specifies the buildup amount for the Noh Masterstroke Costume.
  • The Artist’s Tear Tanto perk now correctly mentions the bonus is lost upon being hit.
  • The Time-Honored Crescent Naginata perk now mentions the first strike is a Postured attack.
  • Corrected the description of the Dark Encryption Kanabo’s perk to “+75% damage”.

Vault Access in the Animus Menu

A quick access for the Vault has been added to the Animus menu while in gameplay for easier access to the feature.

New Resources Available in the Exchange

Gold, Mastery and Knowledge Points are now available as part of daily offers, which can be purchased repeatedly with Keys.

Bug fixes & Improvements

Nintendo Switch 2

  • Improved various FPS issues.
  • Fixed crashes for stability improvements
  • Fixed various visual issues.
  • Improved the touchscreen experience.
  • Fixed an issue where players were asked to connect to a controller whenever the Switch 2 was docked or undocked, even if controllers were already connected.
  • Resolved an issue where the players would remain in an infinite black screen after creating a Ubisoft Connect account or log in with an already existing account upon selecting an audio pack from the initial boot menu.

Gameplay

  • Removed an exploit that would permit double engravings on the Sword of Fathoms.
  • Fixed an issue preventing Naginatas from being sold. Fine, I shall sell my best wares somewhere else!
  • Resolved an issue where perks that checked Mastery points spent would not update if Mastery points changed after equipping the item.
  • Fixed an issue where upgrading skills to Rank 3 would sometimes cause damage upgrades from Rank 2 to be missing.
  • The Bo Staff will now increase its affliction buildup stat when upgrading it Mythic and Artifact quality.
  • Perks with affliction effects now have dynamic wording that specify which affliction they apply, based on the item they are engraved on.
  • Fixed an issue where Knowledge Scrolls were removed from the players inventory. Junjiro did you take my scrolls again??
  • Shared skills between Naoe and Yasuke will now correctly be learned by both.
  • Edited wording for the “Affliction After Deflect” perk to clarify it applies 35% buildup instead of a full Affliction.
  • Ensured that “Restore 6% Health With Posture Attack” is present for all Critical Damage and Health Gain engravings for all weapons when equipped.

Claws of Awaji

  • Fixed an issue where players with two copies of the game, one with the Claws of Awaji Expansion and one without, would permanently lose the ability to fast travel to the island of Awaji when switching between the two editions of the game.

World

  • Players can now whistle while using the Follow Road mechanic. Enjoy the open road, whistle a tune and relax!
  • Corrupted Castles will no longer reset when loading into a previous save after a season has already changed.
  • Fixed an issue where enemies and loot would respawn upon loading a save before changing seasons.

Visuals & Graphics

  • Adjusted some facial animation for Naoe or Yasuke that looked unnatural during all cinematics when a hood was equipped. Psst! Naoe, stop making silly faces, please!

UI

  • Corrected inconsistencies between the smuggled rewards shown in the UI at the end of a season and what was truly received. All the goods are there, boss!
  • Fixed inconsistencies with the smuggled rewards UI when the Stables are upgraded. Remember to give your trusty steed an apple as a treat.
  • Corrected location name for “Kawarajiri Lumber Camp” in Japanese.

Online Store

  • Fixed an issue with receiving Store, Deluxe and Premium items into the player’s inventory.

  • “Swords And Sake”: Fixed an issue where the mission couldn’t be completed due to Gennojo dying.
  • “Eliminate Outlaws”: Corrected issues preventing the completion of the mission.
  • “Temple Stories”: Ensured that Joken Hokkyo will not disappear so that the quest objective can be completed. Wait! Don’t go! I need to complete this mission!
  • “Dismantling One by One”: Wandering enemies will now be indicated with a marker.

How to download updates for Assassin’s Creed Shadows on Nintendo Switch 2?

To download the updates for Assassin’s Creed Shadows, you have three options:

  • let the console do its thing if you have automatic downloads activated, and didn’t completely turn it off

If not…

  • try to launch the game from the Home Menu while being connected to the internet. You should get a prompt when doing so: simply follow the instructions on screen;

OR

  • select the game > press either + or – to go to the Options page > select Software update > select Via the Internet.

To check that you have the latest version installed, simply select the game on the Home Menu, and press – or + to go to the Options: the version number is displayed just below the game title.
