Xenoblade Chronicles 2: Expansion Pass to add several Rare Blades, distribution to begin in Early May

Ahead of launch, Nintendo shared plenty of details about Xenoblade Chronicles 2 during a special Nintendo Direct presentation. It’s during that presentation that the Expansion Pass was first announced, and an outline of its contents revealed. The various DLC Packs have and will add new quests, but also additional story content, a Challenge Mode, and new Rare Blades.

While the wording used on the Nintendo Direct infographic and the official website made it look like only one will be added (New Rare Blade, New Rare Blade Pack), the in-game notifications confirm that the Expansion Pass will in fact add several Rare Blades. Those will be added to the game in installments, similiar to how additional quests have been distributed so far.

But that’s not all: the notification also reveals that the Rare Blade rollout will begin in Early May. Unfortunately, we don’t know how many Rare Blades will be added with this first distribution, how often and when subsequent distributions will take place, and how many new Rare Blades will be added in total.

It’s also unclear how players will be able to add those new Rare Blades to their party. It’s quite likely they will have to tackle special quests, instead of simply having them added automatically (or worse: having to get them via random drops). What we do know is that they will all have their own Blade Quest(s), allowing you to get to know them better.

Finally, another Expansion Pass notification shares some minor tidbits about the new Challenge Battle Mode. It’s aimed at players looking for a really intense challenge, with “difficult new battles”. It looks like you will also be able to make some “new friends” along the way, but it’s not clear what this means just yet.

We should be getting more details about all this in the near future, via the Productions Notes section of the official website in Japan. As usual, you will be able to find all you need to know on the Xenoblade Chronicles 2 DLC page!
