Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! / Eevee!

Thanks to various sources (official Q&A at the press conference on Wednesday, Famitsu interview), we now have some additional details about Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! / Eevee! on Nintendo Switch.

First, we have the confirmation that despite initial reports (due to mistranslations), the game will indeed have online features: you will be able to trade Pokémon, and have battles with other players, via the internet. And in case you were wondering: yes, you will need a Nintendo Switch Online subscription to use those features.

However, “advanced” features such as the Global Trade Station, Battle Spot, or Wonder Trade will not be available, due to a desire from the developers to simplify things. Do note that this is only for this particular game, and this does not apply to future “core” games.

Also, when playing in Handheld Mode, it looks like you cannot use touch controls. When not using buttons, you can move the console around using the gyro to throw Poké Balls.

Finally, the game will feature simplified gameplay systems such as leveling up, raising, and training. However, it’s not clear how those were simplified, but The Pokémon Company will provide further details at a later date.

2019 game

On Wednesday, Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! / Eevee! was revealed for the Nintendo Switch. But it’s not the only Pokémon RPG that was announced for the console: The Pokémon Company also confirmed that new “core” games will be released in the second half of 2019.

Unfortunately, we don’t know anything about them at all, but we have the confirmation that it’s indeed the games that were announced at E3, last year (and not Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! / Eevee!, which is a completely separate project).

Here’s the actual wording from the press release:

Pokémon also announced that the next introduction to its popular core RPG series, which was teased last year at E3, will arrive in late 2019 on Nintendo Switch for the first time.

Pokémon Quest

Today, The Pokémon Company has announced that, in just two days, Pokémon Quest has been download over 1 million times worldwide. That’s a pretty good start (even if it’s a Free 2 Start title, so it doesn’t cost anything to download), especially as the Android and iOS versions will only be released at the end of the month.

Also, here’s various videos and screenshots for the game:

Also, here’s two Nintendo eShop pre-paid cards released earlier this week in Japan (1 500 Yen, can be used to buy anything on the Nintendo eShop):

Finally, here’s various bits of official merchandise, available at Pokémon Center stores across in Japan:
