Pokémon Direct: Pokémon Sun / Moon officially announced (9 languages, late 2016)

Pokemon Sun and MoonToday, Nintendo kicked off the 20th Anniversary of the Pokémon series with a Pokémon Direct presentation. As we expected, the latest entry was revealed (following yesterday’s leak), and they are called Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon. Both versions will be released in Late 2016, with a more precise date to be revealed later this year.

Unfortunately, we only got to see very little of the game: some concept-art and… that’s pretty much it. We don’t quite know if Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon are part of a new generation, or if they’re part of the 6th Generation along with Pokémon X and Y. No doubt we will have some answers within the next couple of weeks!

The Pokémon Company does mention the game will feature “a new world, new Pokémon, and new adventures”, which suggests it’s a new generation. Also, the North American Pokémon Direct confirms that only parts of the game will be in stereoscopic 3D, just like in Pokémon X, Y, Omega Ruby, and Alpha Sapphire.

It was also announced that the game would be translated in two additional languages: Chinese (Traditional), and Chinese (Simplified). In other words, Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon will be playable in a total of 9 languages:

  • English
  • French
  • Italian
  • German
  • Spanish
  • Japanese
  • Korean
  • Chinese (Traditional)
  • Chinese (Simplified)

But that’s not all: it was also announced that Pokémon Red Version / Green Version / Blue Version / Yellow Version: Special Pikachu Edition would be compatible with the Pokémon Bank service. It will allow you to transfer your Pokémon from those versions to Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon (provided you have a subscription to the service).
