Famitsu: Top 10 Publishers for 2015 in Japan (January – November)

Thanks to Famitsu, we have the Top 10 of publishers for 2015 in Japan. Obviously, the data do not cover the full year, and go up to December (November 29th to be more precise). We will have to wait an additional month before getting numbers for the full year.

They may be incomplete, but the numbers below allow us to get a clear picture of who sold the most games this year in Japan.

And unsurprisingly, it’s Nintendo who sold the most games. Despite some “accidents” (like Animal Crossing: amiibo Festival), the company had quite a lot of popular titles such as Splatoon (already 1 million units sold), Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer, Super Mario Maker, Fire Emblem Fates, Rhythm Heaven: The Best+, and more. And of course, there’s the usual ever-green titles, which sell on long periods.

Bandai-Namco was the second most successful publisher in Japan, but without any title on Nintendo platforms in its Top 5. As for Square-Enix, Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King makes for over 1/4 of its total sales. For Capcom, the best-selling title was obviously Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate, which makes for over half of its total sales in 2015.

Finally, Level-5 is only #5, with 2 420 000 copies sold. Without a mainline entry for the Yo-kai Watch series, the drop in sales is noticeable, but that’s not really cause for concern. Indeed, Yo-kai Watch Busters has been enjoying great sales for a spin-off, with over 1.5 million units sold since launch.
