Splatoon has been enjoying strong popularity across the globe, but it’s really in Japan that this popularity is the most noticeable.

For example, on October 21st, Nintendo released Splatune in Japan: the soundtrack album for Splatoon. That album sold 24 355 units during the first day, and about 43 000 units during its first week on the market. It was extremely unusual for a video game music album to sell so well, and even chart in Oricon’s Daily and Weekly rankings.

And it looks like the Splatoon LIVE in Makuhari: Squid Sisters Live album, released last week (on July 13th), is also off to a great start. According to Oricon, it was the 8th best-selling album during its launch week, with 10 345 units sold at retail.

Of course, that’s quite the drop compared to Splatune, but that’s not too surprising given Splatoon LIVE in Makuhari: Squid Sisters Live is, as the name indicates, only offers recordings of live concerts (with most of the album already available legally on YouTube). What’s more, it only features music by the Squid Sisters (with several versions of the same tracks), and with only two original tracks.

There’s no doubt Nintendo is pretty satisfied with debut sales for Splatoon LIVE in Makuhari: Squid Sisters Live’s!
