Splatoon: over 1 million units sold in Europe, JP Splatfest illustrations

Splatoon came out in May 29th 2015 in Europe, and it’s been selling pretty well since then. Today, Nintendo announced via Twitter that the game had sold over 1 million units in that region alone, which is a pretty impressive number. After all, even some of the most famous Nintendo franchises (such as Donkey Kong) have struggled on Wii U, so reaching 1 million in Europe alone is no small feat, especially for a brand new IP.

To celebrate this milestone, Seita Inoue (Splatoon’s Art Director) shared the following illustration (but also a “movie” poster):

As of December 31st, 2015, Splatoon sales are as follows:

  • Splatoon – 4.06 million units (1.37 million units in Japan, 2.7 million units in Europe/North America)

There’s no doubt Splatoon will end up reaching 5 million units sold worldwide, but it will most likely not be before the end of the current Fiscal Year. However, there’s no doubt it will get there eventually.

Also, the Squid Research Lab shared some illustrations for the 12th Japanese Splatfest (with a Dragon Quest theme), which takes place this week-end.

Here they are:

No doubt the North American and/or European Splatfests should be announced before the end of the week!

But that’s not all: Nintendo also uploaded some “Top Tip” video, with pretty useful tips for beginners (and some “old” players, too)!
