In this post, you will find the archives of all the Squid Research Lab updates for Splatoon 3 from November 15th 2022 to December 9th 2022. For the most recent updates, make sure to check out this post instead!

December 9th

Planning to take part in the Big Run event this week-end? If yes, you better prepare yourself because the supplied weapons will be selected at random!

December 8th

If you take part in Big Run events, you can earn a badge alongside the usual rewards. It’s not granted to you based on your evaluation during a given shift, but simply by collecting a certain amount of Golden Eggs during a single shift and topping a high score. Don’t worry if you fail to get it during a Big Run event: you can always try and do better during the following one (that badge is common to all Big Run events).

November 30th

The Tentatek Splattershot is the 10th and final new Weapon variant set to go live alongside the Chill Season 2022 on November 30th/December 1st. It comes with the “Splat Bomb” Sub Weapon, and the “Triple Inkstrike” Special Weapon.

Also, with the latest update, you can now use Photo Mode in battle stages (in Recon). You can use that feature when playing with friends in private matches, with the player who created the room becoming the cameraman. Why not deepen your friendship with a photo session?

Also, the update introduced a new feature to the terminal at Grizzco Industries: you can now save “shift patterns’ (stage, Salmonids appearing, and special situations) into “Shift Scenarios”. You can then use those Shift Scenarios in private matches, and even train on specific scenarios as much as you like!

Shift Scenarios can be saved as codes, that you can then share with friends. By entering one at the terminal at Grizzco Industries, you can download the corresponding Shift Scenario to your game. You can use it to challenge your friends and compete for high scores with them, for example!

November 29th

Big Run is the name of a phenomenon where the Salmonids invade areas where Inklings and Octolings live. It is rumoured to occur once every few months. While a Big Run is ongoing, the stages normally used in regular battles become stages for Salmon Run!

The first Big Run will take place from December 9th (4PM PT / 7PM ET) / December 10th (12AM GMT / 1AM CEST / 9AM JST) to December 11th (4PM PT / 7PM ET) / December 12th (12AM GMT / 1AM CEST / 9AM JST). The stage will be Wahoo World!

Players who take part in a Big Run will receive a special reward: a decoration. Also, the teams that collect the most Golden Eggs during a Salmon Run shift (Top 50% for Bronze, Top 20% for Silver, and Top 5% for Gold) will earn an extra reward!

November 21st

The first major update for Splatoon 3 will add some fresh new content, including new stages, new weapons, and more. Here’s some details and a video for some of the new content:

  • New Catalogue: starting with the Chill Season, players will be able to get a better, more detailed look at the contents of new Catalogues. Alongside Banners, the new Catalogue will feature new locker decorations, lots new Gear, and more. You can check the contents of a Catalogue by selecting “Catalogue” from the main menu starting today!

November 18th

The first major update for Splatoon 3 will add some fresh new content, including new stages, new weapons, and more. Here’s some details for some of the new content:

  • Marooner’s Bay (Salmon Run): the key aspect of this stage is the height difference between the large ship hull and the shore to the left and right. It’s pretty dangerous to stay down there for too long, so once you’ve collected the Golden Eggs, you really need to hurry back to the ship!

November 17th

The first major update for Splatoon 3 will add some fresh new content, including new stages, new weapons, and more. Here’s some details and a video for some of the new content:

  • Snipewriter 5H: this new type of Charger fires ink hardened into wick-like projectiles. After fully charging it, each time you press the ZR button, you can fire 1 projectile at a time, up to 5 times. A single shot isn’t very powerful, but you can fire several projectiles in quick succession.
  • X Battle: starting with the 2022 Winter Chill Season, players looking for a challenge can take part in X Battles. Only players with a rank of S+0 or higher can participate in those battles with X Power on the balance. Don’t worry if this is too “hardcore” for you: you can still take part in Anarchy Battles even after the addition of X Battles. Also, players will be divided in two Leagues sponsored by local brands: Takoroka League for players from Japan, Hong Kong, South Korea, Australia, and New Zealand, and Tentatek League for players in the Americas and Europe.

November 16th

The first major update for Splatoon 3 will add some fresh new content, including new stages, new weapons, and more. Here’s some details and a video for some of the new content:

  • Flounder Heights: a returning stage from the original Splatoon. The area has been turned into a sustainable collective housing complex thanks to a major renovation project carried out by the local government, companies, and scientists. On this map, securing the rooftops is key. There are many places where you can climb up, so use this to your advantage when going on the offensive!
  • Wide Roller (Big Swig Roller): a new, lightweight roller with an exceedingly wide tip. With the Wide Roller, you can ink wide areas while using less ink than with other Rollers (making it perfect for inking on the go!). Bonus point: it can be swung quickly!

November 15th

The first major update for Splatoon 3 will add some fresh new content, including new stages, new weapons, and more. Here’s some details and a video for some of the new content:

  • Splattershot Nova: a shooter which combines good range and ease of use. Its basic accuracy and power leave a bit to be desired, but its has a rapid fire rate, and its accuracy does not go down even if you keep on firing it.
  • Brinewater Springs: a new Stage, set in a hot springs resort. At the start of battle, you need to go down a slope to reach the front lines, which means that when you go on the offensive and try to reach the enemy’s side, you will have to face a (literal) uphill battle! Successfully maneuvering around that slope will be key to victory on this stage.
