Smoke and Sacrifice (open-world, narrative-driven RPG) headed to the Nintendo Switch this year
Developed by Solar Sails Games and published by Curve Digital (who have been among the most active publishers on Nintendo Switch), Smoke and Sacrifice is an “open-world, narrative-driven RPG” for the Nintendo Switch, releasing later this year.
This game has you play as Sachi, a young mother who decides to go on a quest in order to discover the fate of her child. It takes place in a dark, fantastical world where both grotesque plant life and animals roam. But it’s not just those Sachi has to worry about: harsh societal customs are also an issue to take into account. After all, it’s not just the antoganists she has to worry about: the entire world is a threat to Sachi.
According to the developers, the game takes cues from modern survival classics, and aims at evolving the genre with an intensely personal story and complex ecosystem. The brutal story of motherhood and survival of Smoke & Sacrifice is brought to life by hand-painted, storybook-like visuals.
Remember the animals mentioned above? Well, they forage, mate, breed, and prey on one another. In order to survive and unravel the mystery at the heart of the game, players will have to learn to tame the wilds. This is done by altering the behaviour of plant and animal life, though it’s not something that should be taken lightly: this may end up limiting the resources Sachi has to craft items from.
Finally, there’s amysterious, deadly smoke to worry about: it alters enemy and player behaviour.
