Nintendo comments

Nintendo notes that even if the New Nintendo 3DS and New Nintendo 3DS XL were off to a great start, sales of previous models (Nintendo 3DS / 3DS XL / 2DS) did not grow as anticipated before the launch of the new models, which is why sales of the Nintendo 3DS family did not reach Nintendo’s forecast (8.73 million vs 9 million).

Software-wise, Pokémon Omega Ruby / Alpha Sapphire and Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS enjoyed great sales, with 9.94 million units and 6.75 million units sold respectively. As for Tomodachi Life, Mario Kart 7, and The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask 3D, they all sold over 2 million units during the past Fiscal Year (2014-15).

Third-party publishers also had some hits (like Level-5 with Yo-kai Watch or Capcom with Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate). In total, over 62.74 million Nintendo 3DS games were sold between April 1st, 2014 and March 31st, 2015.

The Wii U had two hits: Mario Kart 8 and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, which sold 5.11 million units and 3.65 million units respectively. Those two titles performed well, especially in the Western markets (Europe and North America). During the Fiscal Year 2014-15, 3.38 million Wii U consoles and 24.40 million Wii U games were sold globally.

Finally, Nintendo notes that foreign exchange gains totalled 34 billion Yen (252 million € / 283 million $ / 186 million £), thanks to the weakness of the Yen against the Dollar.
