The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – Latest official blog post (Phantom Armour)

Today, Nintendo published a blog post about The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild on the official blog of the Legend of Zelda portal in Japan. This time, the post is from Daiki Iwamoto, the Assistant Director of the game. He’s here to talk about the first DLC pack (the Master Trials, releasing on June 30th), and more precisely the Phantom Armour.

The Phantom Armour is one of the elements you can get from the 1st DLC Pack for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

If you’ve never played The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass or The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks, on the Nintendo DS, then you’ve probably never heard of the Phantoms. Those are mysterious armoured knights, who cannot take damage from the front (you have to hit them in the back), but can defeat Link in just one hit.

Daiki Iwamoto explains that during the development of The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass (called a “stylus action adventure game” in Japan), one of the initial ideas they had was to include gameplay where players would basically play tag with unbeatable enemies in dungeons.

Phantom are pretty powerful enemies, and Link has to advance through the Temple of the Ocean King by hiding from them. Daiki Iwamoto likens those Phantom to the Guardians in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, that are (generally) best avoided at all costs (especially if you don’t have the adequate equipment and/or weapons).

Phantoms also appear in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, though in that game, Link can have Zelda possess them (in order to solve puzzles, for example).

In The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, the Phantom Armour allows Link to dress like a Phantom possessed by Zelda. But it’s not just for show: it also increases his attack power!
