Shovel Knight: details on the Specter Knight campaign, upcoming content

Yesterday, Yacht Club Games posted a rather meaty update for Shovel Knight on their official blog, giving details about the Specter Knight campaign (the next free content update for the game), the Specter Knight itself, and upcoming content.

Shovel KnightFirst, they detail some of the moves of the Specter Knight:

  • Slash: slash enemies in front of you
  • Dash Slash: you dive towards the enemy with a slash
  • Wall Climb: you can climb on walls for a certain amount of time

You can find more details and gifs for those moves by clicking here!

Next, Yacht Club Games explain how, once the original game was launched, they gathered feedback before working on the first major expansion (the Plague Knight campaign). This was an opportunity for them to “build upon and deliver all new story, characters, and playstyle”, and it allowed them to find out “how best to extend and change up the existing Shovel Knight game world”.

And now, they’re working on all the remaining content updates at once (in order to be able to plan everything more cohesively). And there’s a lot coming right up:

  • Specter Knight (which will be released first), with new Feats and Challenges
  • King Knight, with new Feats and Challenges
  • Body Swap
  • Battle Mode (Wii U only, not on Nintendo 3DS): a single screen, multiple controller, multiplayer mode
  • NB: everything will be free, on all platforms, digital/retail!

We don’t quite know when the Plague Knight campaign will be released, but according to Yacht Club Games, it will take less time than the Plague Knight one did. Once a set of updates is almost complete, they will switch to polish a campaign. Once it’s released, they will do the same for the remaining ones.
