Puzzle & Dragons Z is the third entry to be released on Nintendo 3DS, and a follow-up to Puzzle & Dragons X. As mentioned previously, it will get two versions (similar to Pokémon), called Chapter of Gods and Chapter of Dragons.
One of the main new features is the Soul Armours, which are imbued with the souls of monsters: they allow the protagonist to transform, and get powers to use in battle. As seen in a previous report, Tamazo (the protagonist’s partner) can also transform, provided you have the right items.
The game is set on Dragoza Island, which is split in 5 regions (one for each element: Fire, Water, Wood, Light, and Dark). In each one, you can find various shops and facilities, where you can:
- shop for Soul Armours, but also upgrades;
- get some quest to tackle;
- use a Capsule Toy Machine to get rare monsters or materials. You have to use D-medals, which are found in the fields.
Each region has its own legendary Dragon Caller: there’s 5 of them, and they’re called “The Ancients”. They can transform into “Ancient Gods” or “Ancient Dragons”. Famitsu introduces three of them:
- Water Sage: Vahaton;
- Wood Sage, Tinbel;
- Fire Sage: Eldra.
Next, here’s some of the new and returning monsters to be found in Puzzle & Dragons X:
Fire elementals
- Gigantes, the Iron Giant
- Ifrit
Water elementals:
- Isis, the Goddess of the Sea
- Crystal Aurora Dragon
Wood elementals:
- Avalon Drake, the Guardian Dragon
- Mei Mei, the Black Tortoise of the Earth
Light elementals:
- Varche, the Sky Knight
- Lightning Holy Dragon
Dark elementals:
- Arch-angel Lucifer
- Chaos Devil Dragon
Finally, we have two new gameplay features, starting with Grand Bosses that you can encounter in the field. There’s also special monsters in dungeons that can transform if you make enough chain combos.
