Monster Hunter X: over 2 million units shippsed in 6 days
Monster Hunter X came out on Saturday in Japan, and even though it’s a spin-off, it’s selling extremely well. Yesterday, Famitsu revealed that total sales for the first two days had topped 1.5 millions units (including download card sales, but not Nintendo eShop sales). The game quickly sold-out, leading many players to get it from the Nintendo eShop.
And it’s most likely thanks to them that Capcom has already shipped 2 million copies of Monster Hunter X in Japan, in six days. Capcom sent a press release to announce it this morning, and specifies that this number includes:
- retail copies sold (virtually sold out, new shipments expected for this week-end)
- download cards sold
- Nintendo eShop sales
In other words, despite being virtually sold out, Monster Hunter X still managed to reach the 2 million units shipped threshold in less than a week. There’s no doubt Capcom is more than happy about those sales, especially since this is just the beginning. The holiday period has already started, and sales will only start to slow down in January.
Capcom is expecting to ship 2.5 million copies of Monster Hunter X before the end of the fiscal year (March 31st). Quite obviously, the company is going to reach its goal several months in advance (maybe even before the end of the year).
In its press release, Capcom explains that this success is due to the new gameplay mechanics, offering even more freedom to players (newcomers and veterans alike). The many cross-industry collaborations (such as those with famous mangas) have also allowed Capcom to maintain users interest in the game.
Capcom also mentions the next Monster Hunter game, Monster Hunter Stories, which will be launched next year. It will come with the very first Monster Hunter anime series. For the company, those initiatives have one goal: “improving the long-term brand value of the series.”
