Monster Hunter X: over 1.5 million units sold during the first two days

If there’s one series that has managed to remain extremely popular across the years, it’s Monster Hunter. Pretty much all entries sell over 2 million units, including expansions like Monster Hunter 4G. And this Saturday, Monster Hunter X came out in Japan: it’s the fourth Monster Hunter game on Nintendo 3DS, but sales were still extremely strong.

Monster Hunter X

According to Capcom / Famitsu (who published its early sales report this morning, something they only do for major releases), Monster Hunter X has sold over 1.5 million units during the first two days… 1 542 104 units, to be more precise!

This includes:

  • retail sales
  • download card sales (but not sales on the Nintendo eShop)
  • New Nintendo 3DS Special Pack

The game was so popular that the game sold out pretty fast. Right now, trying to find a brand new retail copy in stores is mission impossible, which is why many players chose to get the game from the Nintendo eShop. And they were many to do so: in fact, Monster Hunter X is already #11 of the All-Time Chart! Apparently, retailers are expecting a new shipment for this week-end.

Famitsu notes that Monster Hunter X’s debut had a pretty positive impact on Nintendo 3DS sales: 133 268 units were sold last week in Japan, compared to 33 203 during Week 47. It looks like many players chose to upgrade for this new Monster Hunter game on Nintendo 3DS, though there’s no doubt the 4 New Nintendo 3DS Packs released on the same day helped.

We will get Media Create’s sale numbers later today, at 10PM JST. They will most likely be slightly less impressive than Famitsu’s, as Media Create does not take into account sales of download cards.
