Dragon Quest Monsters Joker 3: details and screens for local multiplayer and StreetPass

Dragon Quest Monsters Joker 3Today, Square-Enix shared the latest batch of details and screenshots for Dragon Quest Monsters Joker 3. This time, it’s a continuation of the previous article, with a focus on some more multiplayer features: local multiplayer, StreetPass, and even SpotPass.

Thanks to local wireless, you can battle other players, but also share monsters with them. Strangely enough, you can “trade” monsters even without giving a monster in return (basically: a gift).

There’s three types of battles:

  • 1 vs 1 battles
  • Grand Prix battles (up to 8 teams)
  • Great Riders Cup: more details will be revealed at a later date

During local multiplayer battles, there’s one key element to pay attention to: Judge Points (which are the key to victory). They’re displayed at the bottom of the top screen, and they increase by attacking, using special skills and effects, but also defeating the monsters of your opponents.

Next, there’s StreetPass battles. During those, you get to play against the teams of players you meet via StreetPass. Those battles allow you to earn some Communication Coins, even if you lose. What’s more, you can also scout the monsters of players met in the street. Of course, there’s one restriction: you can only scout a single monster, up to Rank A.

From the StreetPass menu, you can chose which monsters will be “sent” to other players. Fun detail: if you’re set to rid a monster, you will appear as riding it in other players’ game (this includes all the customisation options).

Finally, there’s SpotPass: just like in many other games using that feature, it allows you to get some items via the internet. Square-Enix also mentions a mysterious Stealth Box in the multiplayer plaza, and you need to use the Reactor headset to find out what’s inside. Thanks to SpotPass, you can also get to battle special teams with rare monsters.
