Earlier this month, Bandai-Namco announced not one, but two new Digimon games for the Nintendo 3DS:
- Digimon Universe: Appli Monsters (Nintendo eShop): you scan the QR code on the Appli Monsters (appmon) chips, and then battle with them. It will launch this Fall in Japan.
- Digimon Universe: Appli Monsters (retail): a full-fledged game. Unfortunately, we know absolutely nothing about it, and we don’t even have a tentative release window.
This week, Bandai-Namco opened the official website for the game, revealing some screenshots and more details for the game. Appmon is the name of monsters hiding within smartphones, and there here’s a lot of them: in fact, there’s one for every single app!
Digimon Universe: Appli Monsters is described as a Deck Battle RPG, and you use the abilities of your Appmon in battle. You can scan the Appmon Chip (the toys) with your Nintendo 3DS in order to add them to your game.
Next, we have details about the battle system proper. During battle, you can link AppMon together in order to use various attacks. In the screencap below, we can see Gacchimon (the mascot) linked with Mailmon, which allows it to use the Mail attack.
Finally, we have AppFusion, which allows you to fuse two monsters together. Bandai-Namco gives us an example: Gacchimon + Navimon = Dogacchimon.
Here’s screencaps from the official website:
