Today’s Daily Briefs: interview about the localisation of River City: Tokyo Rumble, but also…

River City: Tokyo Rumble

Yesterday, Tiny Cartdrige published an interview with Taka Maekawa, US Producer for River City: Tokyo Rumble. It’s mostly about the game’s localisation, and more precisely the challenges in localising such a game (especially when you take into account the original localisation of previous entries in the series).

Here’s an excerpt:

We approached most things situationally; did it make sense to retain the original translation, or go in a new direction? For example, the game heavily relies on its environment (Tokyo) to set the story’s theme and tone, and we wanted to retain that theme. So we decided to maintain Japanese names whenever it made sense to do so – being set in Tokyo, with many of the characters wearing their school uniforms, Japanese character names and locations made the most sense.

Cruis’n Blast

Remember the new Cruis’n game for Arcade, developed by Raw Thrills? It’s now called Cruis’n Blast, and that’s the final name, as the game will be released in January 2017. Arcade Heroes has plenty of new details about the game, so make sure to click here to learn more about it!
