Monster Hunter Stories: the anime series to have (at least) 48 episodes

Monster Hunter StoriesBack in April, Capcom announced a new Monster Hunter game for the Nintendo 3DS, radically different from the others (it’s a turn-based RPG): Monster Hunter Stories. It will be launched sometime next year, and will come with an anime series.

Unfortunately, we still don’t know anything about it, other than it will be produced by David Production (a subsidiary of Fuji TV, who will create its first day time timeslot in almost 10 years especially for this anime). But it looks we finally have a proper title for it: Monster Hunter Stories RIDE ON!

This info comes from the website of AnimeJapan 2016, an event entirely dedicated to animation (taking place on March 26-27th). It looks like the anime series will be showcased on the booth of Fuji Creatives Corporation. What’s more, we learn that the anime series will have (at least) 48 episodes of 30 minutes (which includes the commercials, the actual episode duration is closer to 24 minutes).

That means that unless things gets really hairy (with both the anime and the game itself severely underperforming, like Gaist Crusher), Monster Hunter Stories RIDE ON will remain on air for a full year. Of course, there’s always the possibility more episodes will be made, but it’s not something we will know for sure for a long while.

One thing’s for sure: both Capcom and Fuji TV are taking this project seriously. After all, only the most popular of anime series get to air on two cours (periods of 3 months), so for Monster Hunter Stories RIDE ON to get 48 episodes right off the bat is a pretty big deal.
